Summary

The Lead Advocate for Global Gender Policy will be responsible for advancing Save the Children’s U.S. foreign policy objectives around girls and gender equality focused on increasing girls’ civic and political participation, including supporting influencing Congress and the administration and other key stakeholders, engaging in the development and implementation of Save the Children’s policy and advocacy portfolio on gender equality and girls’ rights within U.S. foreign policy and assistance, and providing a gender lens to other policy areas. You will report to the Managing Director, Global Development Policy and will collaborate closely across the PAC government relations department, particularly the Advisor for Gender Equality Policy and Advocacy.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Advocate on Girls and Gender Equality (55%)

  • Advance U.S. global policy asks on girls and gender equality including girls’ civic and political participation, ending child marriage, and other areas with U.S. Congress and with the administration.
  • represent and amplify Save the Children’s policy recommendations in relevant D.C. based coalitions.

Track and Analyze U.S. government policy developments on girls and gender equality (20%)

  • Monitor and provide real-time tracking and analysis of relevant gender equality and girls’ rights policy developments in Congress and by the Administration

Project Management and Administrative Support (15%)-

  • Contribute to operational needs of the PAC Government Relations department including supporting procurement processes, tracking and coordinating quarterly internal reporting, and coordinating across Save the Children teams, departments, and divisions.

Event Planning and Communications Support (10%)

  • Support in the development and internal dissemination of digital advocacy materials as needed, as well as planning and executing strategic policy and advocacy events.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus at least three (3) years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in a Congressional office, NGO, think-tank, or Executive Branch
  • Demonstrated policy-oriented writing, research and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver on multiple projects and assignments, often with competing deadlines
  • Proven ability to work independently on tasks with minimal supervision, manage own time effectively, and problem-solve
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels, both internal and external
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience organizing and executing virtual and in-person events.
  • Understanding of U.S. foreign policy structures and legislative process
  • Knowledge of girls’ rights issues, particularly ending child marriage and other forms of gender-based violence, and girls’ leadership.
