Summary

The Lead Advisor, Economics & Data Analytics will provide leadership on program data analysis and research to guide decision-making and learning across Save the Children’s international programs (IP). You will work with IP leadership with stakeholders from across the Save the Children movement to identify data synthesis and analytics needs, and in concert with our Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team, create tools and build capacity to enable IP users to access needed data for analytical purposes. You will also lead specific projects to mine and synthesize existing program data and primary and secondary research for insights that support mission-related decision-making and strategy by IP leaders.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Data Science

  • Engages with stakeholders from across the Save the Children movement to identify the data analytic and research needs to provide information, insights, and solutions that contribute to effective decision-making, goal setting, and performance management and sound strategic planning.
  • Partners with BTS to assess how existing data systems can be integrated for needed aggregation and of project outcomes and impact data at the country and/or Agency level.
  • Represents International Programs during the development of Save the Children’s data architecture.
  • Supports development of tools, dashboards and analytic-automations to enable data access and visualization from future data architecture.

Research & Analysis

  • Pulls from Agency data to produce research and analysis that quantifies factors impacting the efficiency and effectiveness of our international programs.
  • Leads and/or assists in conducting analysis and research projects, including summarizing multi-country and/or multi-thematic program evaluation findings
  • Partners with and provides recommendations to agency leadership on the appropriate application of economic analysis, market data, and predictive analytics to project interventions agency strategies and effectively communicates risk analysis and implications.
  • Effectively communicates results and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership the impact to the business.

Capacity Building

  • Provides coordination and expertise on how to effectively synthesize Save the Children’s outcomes and data.
  • Participates in internal and external trainings, workshops, and conferences on issues related to data science, automated learning and applied econometrics.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience using technology for sophisticated analytical queries, and engaging with larger-scale and complex data fabric.
  • Demonstrated applied economic and/or behavioral science expertise to challenges in international development.
  • Proven ability to identify and understand business issues and map these issues into research and data questions.
  • Professional proficiency in database querying tools and data management skills, and demonstrated comfort with SPSS, R or similar statistical package.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, with with an ability to translate complex concepts to non-expert audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Knowledge of industry leading actuarial, forecasting and other econometric practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced study in quantitative field such as Statistics, Economics or Data Science.
  • Program management experience in international development.
