Context

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent humanitarian organization providing medical aid to victims of man-made or natural disasters, armed conflicts, epidemics, and endemics. Its Operational Centre in Geneva (MSF OCG) manages medical assistance programs in 26 countries for a total staff of over 9000 people.

Responsibilities and tasks

As native Arabic speaker you are in direct contact and provide support to L&D project officer with translation projects in order to guarantee a high-quality and human-reviewed translation, you:

  • Discuss the precise scope of work and any specific expectations for each document to be translated
  • Assessment and review of document prior to translation to estimate the work load (when necessary)
  • Provide support with translation and editing of MSF’s L&D documents, publications and eLearnings
  • Ensure high quality of translation, accurately reflecting the meaning found in the original source language (most often English) and rendering that meaning in the translated work
  • elaborate a glossary with technical and MSF terminology specific to the course
  • Thorough proof-reading of translation provided by external company or Tembo
  • do a technical accuracy review, including confirmation of technical terms
  • Edit and adapt translation and use the MSF vocabulary when necessary
  • Support the L&D team with quality checks of commissioned translations by external providers
  • Support project manager with final check and sign off of translation
  • Implement translated text in Rise or equivalent files
  • Track and communicate design adjustments to accommodate differences between languages, including increased word count, reversal of text flow (e.g. for Arabic), script and stylistic differences, and other changes
  • Support with design testing of courses translated into Arabic by using the provided Tembo Design testing sheet
  • Implement updates in Rise or equivalent files

Your Profile

Education

  • Tertiary degree in writing, translation or equivalent

Experience

  • Field experience with MSF is a plus
  • Experience in writing and editing documents, reports, etc.

Languages

  • Native Arabic
  • English, French. Ability to speak and write fluently

Personal Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on different projects at the same time. Result oriented.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and creating links with various stakeholders.
  • Flexibility
  • Team spirit

Skills/ Technical competencies

  • Excellent writing skills and proof-reading
  • methodology in bibliographic research

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position 100% (40h/week)
  • Open-ended contract
  • Working place : Geneva,
  • Ideal start date: As soon as possible
  • Gross annual salary: from CHF 84’814.- to CHF 97’650.- (salary commensurate with equivalent experience and internal salary grid)
