Laboratory Technician

JOB TITLE: Laboratory Technician COLLEGE/OFFICE: College of Medicine ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs routine laboratory functions to support biochemistry, physiology, human biology and microbiology labs, this includes planning, organizing and control of all activities and services of these laboratories Setting up, testing, adjusting, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and models/specimen/slides Preparation of inventory of all equipment, models/specimen/slides and update the department for the needs of new equipment and supplies Collecting and preparing samples, solutions and specimens, plus ensuring safe disposal of wastes Observes established safety guidelines and maintains cleanliness of the laboratory Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or faculty QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: A bachelor���s degree or a higher diploma with a minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a medical college KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Ability to deal comfortably with medical and scientific terminology Ability to handle laboratory work for different biomedical disciplines Ability to produce high-quality work under pressure Reliable, punctual and well-organized personality WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in a typical teaching laboratory environment. Some physical effort is required. No or very limited exposure to physical risk. SUPERVISION: Reports to: Head of Department
