CARE USA

JOB SUMMARY:

CARE developed a scale-up strategy for its flagship approach – Village Savings and Loans Association (VSLAs) in 2018 and recently reviewed it based on the lessons learnt from the 4 years of its implementation. The strategy goal is to ensure that 50 million women and girls (62 million people) are economically and socially empowered through savings groups by 2030, reducing poverty and increasing gender equality. This scaling strategy set the ambition for how to grow the VSLA footprint globally, and not just through CAREs programs, but rather by influencing 3rd party scalers to take up the approach in their programs; primarily government, agribusinesses and adapting the model in crisis settings, and leveraging digital tech to drive efficiencies across all the workstreams.

Due to their effectiveness and versatility, VSLAs are increasingly being promoted as part of multi-component projects, in combination with other interventions such as health services, food and nutrition security, local value chain development, ecosystem services, agricultural training, advocacy campaigns, gender and social norms dialogues, and access to formal financial services. The integration of VSLAs across different sectors and with different impact groups often significantly expands their initially established purpose and outcomes.
The Global VSLA team needs a dynamic Knowledge Management Program Officer (KM PO) to document the impact of CARE’s VSLAs and establish the tools, guidance and knowledge assets that support the Global VSLA team to influence donors, partners and governments.
