Key Expert 2: Specialist in Protected Areas / Experto/a principal 2: Especialista en Áreas protegidas

DRS is in the process of identifying experts for the Forest4Life Paraguay Action Project – aiming to preserve and restore biodiversity by combating deforestation and promoting sustainable forest management in Paraguay.

For this mission we are looking for Key Expert 2: Specialist in Protected Areas. The anticipated start date is March 2024, and the contract execution period will be 48 months from this date (880 working days).

The technical assistance team will have an operational base in Greater Asunción, with a national scope of action. In this sense, the permanent displacement of the team to various areas of the territory is expected.bility mechanisms for protected areas.

Qualifications and competencies

• A university degree in environmental sciences, natural sciences, ecology, ecosystem conservation and restoration, forestry engineering, or disciplines directly related to the environment.
• A master’s degree in Governance of Protected Areas, Forest Restoration, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management, Wild Areas, and Nature Conservation, or similar, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience of at least 3 years in these sectors. These equivalent years are not part of the required years for general professional experience or specific professional experience.
• Additional training (master’s, postgraduate, or others) in the aforementioned areas will be positively evaluated.

General professional experience

• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in governance and environmental sustainability activities, natural capital protection, and related fields.
• Professional experience in Latin America in the areas covered by the contract will be positively evaluated.

Specific professional experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the execution of forest restoration projects, management of protected wild areas, or territorial management in public or private entities, preferably with an international focus.
• Oral and written fluency in Spanish (native or C2).
• Knowledge of English will be positively evaluated.
• Positive consideration will be given to work experiences:
• In the design and/or management of programs for the protection and conservation of natural capital;
  In the design and/or management of financial sustainability mechanisms for protected areas.
