Junior Professional Consultant on audio-visual communications and news production

For its International Junior Professionals Programme, ILGA World is seeking a Junior Professional Consultant to assist the organisation’s communications team in the production of audio-visual and news content.

The International Junior Professionals Programme of ILGA World is a great opportunity for somebody who has an interest in human rights and LGBTI issues and wants to gain experience in working for an international human rights organisation that represents LGBTI organisations, communities, and movements on a global stage. Its junior consultancies replace ILGA World’s internship opportunities that the organisation offered in the past, and are aimed at LGBTI human rights activists who are at an early stage of their career.

Requirements

  • undergraduate or graduate degree in communications, graphic/visual communications design, journalism, or another related field, OR/AND previous experience (including volunteer work) in a communications role
  • excellent level of written and spoken English
  • demonstrable experience in using the Adobe Suite (especially Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop, Audition, and AfterEffect) or similar graphic/sound/video design tools
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively to produce strong, compelling, and creative audio-visual content, as well as accurate and trustworthy news stories
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office. Fluency in using social media for advocacy or organising purposes. Interest in exploring emerging technologies

All candidates should also

  • have a particular interest in and commitment to LGBTI/SOGIESC human rights
  • be creative, well-organised, motivated, extremely attentive to detail, and able to work remotely
  • have a good internet connection while participating in the International Junior Professionals Programme

Desired skills

A proficient level of written Spanish, and the ability to accurately translate content from English into this language, will be considered a strong asset.

In addition, these skills would be considered an asset:

  • a demonstrated interest in keeping oneself updated on LGBTI news from all around the world
  • interest and knowledge in how to make communications outputs more accessible to people with disabilities

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks:

  • produce visual materials (images, videos, infographics, and more) for ILGA World’s social media, website, and other communication channels
  • gather information and stories on LGBTI issues across the world, and work together with the communications team to produce news content in multiple formats for ILGA World’s social media and website
  • assist the communications team in the planning and development of campaigns – including in the production of audio-visual materials
  • organise a daily press review to monitor ILGA World’s presence in mainstream media, as well as global LGBTI-related news
  • assist the communications team in the preparation of podcast episodes (including by organising interviews, assisting with audio editing, and transcribing the episodes)
  • provide technical moderation for webinars and online events organised by ILGA World staff
  • assist the Communications team with translating content from English into Spanish

Junior Consultancy conditions

  • The Junior Consultancy is virtual; no relocation to Geneva is expected or supported by ILGA World
  • The Junior Consultancy is six months long and requires a full-time commitment for its duration (37.5 hours/week). Working hours arrangements are flexible
  • The Junior Professional Consultant will be expected to work from their current location
  • The Junior Professional Consultant will receive a compensation of CHF 750 per month for the duration of the consultancy
  • The successful Junior Professional Consultant will have opportunities to work with representatives of LGBTI organisations from around the world and other NGOs virtually and/or in Geneva
  • Due recognition in publications and activities to which the Junior Professional Consultants have contributed will be given.
