Junior graphic designer

Location: Tunis (Tunisia), Amman (Jordan) or Erbil (Iraq)

Reporting Manager: Regional Programme Director

Start date: March/April 2023

Remuneration: 800 USD per month, depending on location and experience, + benefits

MAGENTA is a leading Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) Research and Communications agency that specializes in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design communications solutions for positive change in fragile and development settings. Headquartered in Amman, Jordan and implementing programmes across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America. We use the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation.

This position is an exciting opportunity to be part of MAGENTA’s growing creative department. An ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in graphic design and 6 months to one year experience and a passion for graphic design and digital communication. The junior graphic designer works under the guidance of the Graphic Designer, and work closely with MAGENTA regional teams and Growth and Marketing team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The junior graphic designer will be responsible for servicing MAGENTA programmes, MAGENTA marketing and new business efforts. Key roles and responsibilities include:

Delivering graphic design excellence

  • Developing fresh and innovative branding and communications ideas for a range of public sector clients + MAGENTA marketing (social network,…);
  • Collaborating with MAGENTA’s graphic designer and relevant teams (programmes or growth and marketing) to deliver on brief, on time, on brand identity and technically sound creative/assets;
  • Participate with team members on creative sessions to develop innovative and actionable design solutions;
  • Guardian of MAGENTA’s identity with the graphic designer.

Representation

  • Present and rationalise own ideas and design solutions to graphic designer and director of programmes.
  • Keep updated with graphic design and technological trends.
  • Passionately contribute to the creative reputation of MAGENTA.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

Education:

  • Relevant degree in graphic design or digital communication from a top tier university required;

Experience:

  • 6 months+ of experience in advertising, graphic design studio, or freelance collaborations.
  • Create, design and produce hand-drawing and painting with digital media to create complete illustrations (Characters, environments etc…) plus ability to provide draft sketches early on in the process.
  • Great time management, organisational skills. Capacity to juggle multiple projects/assignments and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interest in social impact work/international development
  • Proven creativity and awareness of current trends in graphic design and digital to generate fresh graphic and communication ideas.
  • Excellent communicator able to manage conflicts and develop constructive solutions;
  • A service-oriented designer, able to recognise and meet client needs;
  • Demonstrated desire for excellence and an ability to inspire others to attain professional excellence;
  • Good knowledge of graphic design and Adobe creative suite (Adobe illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Adobe After Effects is a ++
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office 365.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Willingness to live, work and travel in developing/post-crisis settings;
  • Good sense of humour, personable and demonstrated ability to build networks;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to get hands dirty;

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • MAGENTA has a flexible working policy which promotes periods of remote working in the year
  • The graphic designer will be working on a Mac workstation with Adobe creative suite, and Microsoft office.
  • May involve working late and on weekends occasionally.
