Junior Expert WASH*

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Berlin, Germany.

As Junior Expert WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) at Welthungerhilfe (WHH), you will provide support in the implementation of advocacy-relevant initiatives and implementation of the cross-country program “WASH Systems Strengthening”. The technical supervision of this position is shared between Welthungerhilfe’s Policy & External Relations and Sector Strategy, Knowledge & Learning units and our partner organization Viva con Agua (VcA).

Your responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain internal and external WASH advocacy networks
  • Represent WHH and VcA vis-à-vis politics, economy, civil society, science and the media at national and international level
  • Coordinate various advocacy related work streams within WHH and VcA
  • Engage in relevant networks and forums as well as sector-relevant events at national and international level
  • Analyse and continuously monitor the political and institutional WASH landscape in Germany and at sector level, including identification of thematic opportunities
  • Identify and prepare advocacy-relevant information, messages and events in the WASH sector
  • Develop and introduce new, unique and fresh lobbying and advocacy formats to mobilize young people
  • Identify and support the development of key information and messages, policy briefs, and other communications products with a focus on human rights, behavior change communications, and WASH systems strengthening
  • Support policy dialogues on WASH issues in coordination with other WHH and VcA advocacy efforts
  • Support WHH and VcA country programs in national advocacy and rights-based programming and promote internal networking and exchange

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in a relevant field such as international development cooperation, social sciences or international relations with a focus on communication, advocacy and/or networking

  • Initial experience working in an I/NGO, think tank, or government agency in the field of development policy and advocacy, preferably with a focus on WASH

  • Experience in developing and implementing communications and advocacy products

  • Experience in planning and designing complex and comprehensive analyses and concepts

  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills and very good communication skills

  • Excellent spoken and written English and German language skills; French language skills would be an asset
