Junior Advisor M&E for Social Impact
KIT Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam is a leading centre of expertise for sustainable economic development, gender, health care and intercultural communication. The Team
The department of Sustainable Economic Development and Gender comprises an international team of advisors working to improve the performance of programmes, companies and organisations that pursue sustainable and inclusive development. The M&E for Social Impact Team translates the expressed need of its partners for evidence into researchable questions and tailored methodologies. We turn the question of which strategies improve livelihoods into traceable evidence, either using qualitative or quantitative methods, or a mix of these.
Responsibilities
As a Junior Advisor you contribute to the implementation of assignments such as evaluations, advisory services, training, capacity building activities and applied research. We often work in project teams, which means that sharing knowledge and expertise, as well as creating opportunities for team participation is important. Therefore, you are able to deliver quality outputs both by working independently and as part of a team. The desired candidate should have a strong background in quantitative research methods and statistics.
Required:
- A master degree (or equivalent/higher) in relevant field, such as in International Development, Applied Economics (development, environment, agriculture), Applied Econometrics/Statistics etc.
- Strong background in applied quantitative research methods / impact evaluation (statistical tests, linear regressions, difference-in-difference, propensity score matching etc.)
- Good communication and inter-personal skills with team members and external clients
- Experience with (household, employee, company) surveys
- Good working knowledge and skills on statistical programming in Stata and/or R
- Interest and affinity with International Development
- Ability to travel for short missions
- Prior practical working experience
- Work permit for the EU
- Fluency in English
Desired but not required:
- Experience in writing reports and communicating findings in accessible language and readable style
- Thematic background in agriculture, nutrition, finance, gender, or other development themes
- Experience in M&E framework design
- Experience in qualitative research (designing qualitative methodologies, conducting qualitative research)
- Experience with ODK software
- Fieldwork experience in a developing country(s)
- Working knowledge of French, Portuguese, or Spanish
Additional information
The initial appointment is for one year, 32 to 38 hours/week, subject to renewal. KIT values a diverse and international workforce. The applicant will join an international team working in a multidisciplinary unit of 36 advisors. The main fields of work of the unit are Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), Inclusive Food Systems, Responsible Agribusiness, and Gender.
We offer
The salary, based on age, qualifications and experience, is between €2692,- and €3191,- gross per month for a 38-hour working week. In addition, there is an 8% holiday allowance, admission to the KIT pension fund (ABP) and opportunities for training and personal development.
