Job summary

MOAS is an international humanitarian NGO focused on delivering Search and Rescue (SAR), Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Health programming to global communities in crisis. MOAS is planning a critical international deployment of mobile medical teams to deliver first response and primary healthcare services to civilians affected by ongoing crisis.

MOAS is looking for qualified medics with experience in emergency medicine, combat medicine or humanitarian health programming. responsible for the Direct medical care, medical and logistical support, medical operational support activities, medical training and medical advising on the epidemiological situation and nearby countries. Additional medical support activities such as support in case management, Medical and Security evacuation support, point of injury care (POI), and damage control resuscitation.

Medical staff may be the sole provider in a remote clinic capacity, on the road in the form of Convoy, at four forward damage control resuscitation/Surgical posts or any additional remote capacity.

Key Duties

· Operate the Mobile Medical Unit vehicle from base to areas of deployment and transfer patients to health facilities as needed, navigating challenging terrain

· Deliver point of injury care to those affected by violence in the field

· Report to sector and head office in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with standard operating procedures and reporting formats

· Coordinate with other field teams, country coordinator and HR remotely as needed

· Maintain stock in the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) and advise as needed on procurement and purchasing.

· Assist with ensuring appropriate patient triage and flow within the clinic.

  • Provide 24-hour non-emergency and emergency medical response to colleagues in the field
  • Coordinate with the assistance centres and Coordinating Doctors the procedures required and preparation of patients to facilitate evacuation.
  • Accompany patients on evacuations and organize hand overs as needed

· Provide basic first aid training to civilians, including use of first aid equipment to be distributed as part of civilian capacity building practices.

Qualifications- candidates should have a mix/selection of the following or similar:

  • Valid Medical License/Certificate in date from country of origin
  • Demonstrates personal expertise and knowledge in health care services; with a preference in surgery, trauma, orthopaedics, prehospital, critical or emergency medicine

· Driving license and associated qualifications for advanced driving

· Trained and certified in Advanced Life Support (ALS) including administering IV fluids, medications, blood and blood products in the prehospital environment;

· Preferably Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Advanced Life Support (UK OR European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Certified);

· Must be current and in date Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Certified and in date Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) / Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) [from a certified National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) verifiable site / course with clear and in date registration] or similar, or an ability to demonstrate such skills

· Preferred to have knowledge of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) / Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) main concepts;

· Must be willing to provide both emergency and primary healthcare with support from medical direction and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

· Must have a current and in date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and be competent at performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and completing primary and secondary trauma assessments using the “CABCD” approach (Catastrophic Bleed, Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Massive Haemorrhage, Respiratory Circulation and Hypothermia (CABC/MARCH);

Desirable Experience/Attributes

· Ability to work under pressure as part of a team is crucial

· Adaptability and flexibility in the face of emerging needs and changing context

· Cultural sensitivity and experience working with vulnerable communities beneficial

· Experience working and coordinating remotely with secondary teams and HQ
