Position Summary
The JetBlue Emerging Talent (JET) summer internship is a 10-week program that provides skill & professional development through participation in developing real-world business solutions that support the delivery of strategic business initiatives. Throughout the program, interns participate in robust programming including professional development activities, cross-functional projects, senior leader exposure, networking, and community service. The JET Program provides interns the opportunity to immerse themselves into the aviation industry while developing specific career interests or areas of study.

The majority of the positions are located in Long Island City, NY Support Center (LSC) and one located in Washington DC. JetBlue encourages all eligible students to apply for our Program; however, JetBlue will not provide relocation costs.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Participate in project management, business analysis, research methods and competitive analysis
- Develop materials to support current and future programs (i.e., dashboards, communications, workflows, presentations, etc.)
- Support development and execution of departmental programs
- Develop processes and partner with internal customers and business partners
- Respond to ad-hoc requests for internal and/or external customers to ensure alignment of programs and initiatives
- Participate in a cross-functional team project
- Research, create presentations, provide recommendations and insight into industry best practices and provide customer service to our internal departments
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- Strong business acumen, results-oriented, forward-thinking rising juniors, seniors, or currently enrolled graduate students from an accredited university
- Available for employment from June 5 – August 11, 2023
- Able to secure local housing
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
- Organized with the ability to multi-task
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Proven record of academic, professional, or leadership achievement
- Ability to prioritize tasks and recognize when escalation is necessary
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment
- Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
- Able to provide an official transcript
- Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
- Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Crewmember Expectations:
- Regular attendance and punctuality
- Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
- Able to maintain a professional appearance
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $20 and $30 per hour depending on degree level. Interns will also have access to free space available travel on JetBlue during the internship duration.
Team Descriptions:
- Airports - Airports Support & Crewmember Experience – Supports projects and initiatives within the Airport Services organization that are designed to drive process improvements and balance JetBlue’s operational goals with Crewmember quality of life.
- Commercial & Planning - Product Development – Responsible for designing Customer Experience touchpoints throughout the travel ribbon, including the ground experience (airports/concessions), our aircraft interiors, our inflight technology, and our onboard food & beverage. In order to create an industry-leading experience, we utilize feedback from both Customers and Crewmembers to identify and eliminate pain points across the end-to-end journey. We also stay abreast of emerging consumer trends as well as leverage competitive benchmarking in order to innovate and continue evolving the Experience we deliver.
- Commercial & Planning - Schedule Planning – Combines planned capacity levels with operational constraints to build, publish, and distribute the flight schedule for the airline. Working collaboratively with multiple other teams in the Planning department, on schedules as close in as 10 days before operation or as far out as 18 months, the Schedule Planning Team is the team that determines the timing and equipment of all JetBlue flights.
- Corporate Communications – Corporate Communications/ Media Relations – Crafts stories that help build the company’s reputation and its mission to inspire humanity with media and other external audiences.
- Corporate Security – Corporate Security Systems and ID Services – Responsible for managing the install, maintenance and operation of all CCTV and Access Control Systems. Additionally, the team supports the employee badging of over 20K crewmembers. This department’s planning focuses on data, information, operations, and processes in every operational function.
- Finance - Financial Planning and Analysis – Acts as key financial advisors to the business. They work in functional teams that provide high-quality, relevant, and timely financial business information.
- Information Technology – IT Digital and Customer Products – Responsible for key customer-facing applications including Booking, Manage Your Booking, Check-in, JetBlue.com and Mobile App. The JET Summer Intern will be part of the Self Service Products team. We’re the team that develops and supports Manage Your Booking, Check-in and Self-Boarding. This internship is a great opportunity to work alongside a passionate team, learn about what it takes to build these products, and to engage with a wide range of matrix partners across JetBlue as well as with external Business Partners.
- Information Technology - IT Operations Products, Crew – Manages mission critical applications for the safe and on-time operation of the airline. Applications are used by pilots, flight attendants and the system operations center and are built in line with federal and company work rules. The team applies business analysis, development, testing and project / program management to align with stakeholders to ensure product health while delivering enhancements for optimum operability. Interns will have the opportunity to assist with requirements gathering, project coordination and defect management and be exposed to the various tools in this fast-paced space.
- Legal - Government Affairs – Focuses on building relationships across Federal, State and Local government as well as with airport authorities and within the aviation industry. The team advocates, tracks and engages on legislative and regulatory issues that impact JetBlue’s operation. We also work extensively on areas of consumer protection and manage licensing requirements in our international jurisdictions. This position will be based out of DC with some travel to NY.
- Legal - Sustainability and ESG – Responsible for creating and executing JetBlue’s strategy and programs related to our environmental impact and risk, as well as large societal and environmental trends that could affect our core business. The team leads a series of operational programs such as sourcing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), aircraft fuel efficiency projects, electrification of airport vehicles, onboard product sustainability and onboard recycling, as well as broader ESG risk oversight related to best practice research and benchmarking, reporting and investor engagement.
- Legal – Legal – Primarily responsible to ensure the legality and compliance of JetBlue’s actions as a company. The Legal Department includes litigation and regulatory attorneys, as well as transactional, finance and security lawyers. The team will provide an opportunity to learn what it is like to practice law as an in-house attorney while working on substantive assignments.
- People - Corporate Social Responsibility – Leads strategy and programming to continue to grow awareness and participation in the JetBlue For Good brand internally through our Crewmember volunteer engagement initiatives and externally through a variety of our signature programs like Soar with Reading and JetBlue For Good month.
- People - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Leads strategy and programming to drive better decision-making, promotes innovation, and increases organizational nimbleness. The team oversees our Crewmember Resource Groups (CRGs) and leads initiatives that contribute to JetBlue’s growth and sustainability by embedding the shared and unique identities, backgrounds, and perspectives of our Crewmembers, Customers and communities into all the ways we do business.
- People - Organizational Effectiveness – Responsible for designing and delivering all leadership development offerings for JetBlue, as well as supporting organizational development/ design and supporting Crewmember adoption through change management.
- People - People Data Insights – Uniquely positioned to inspire our 20,000 JetBlue Crewmembers by using expertise in analytics & data, research, and psychology. We strive to provide leaders with the data insights needed to drive the business forward through people analytics in areas such as diversity, equity, & inclusion (DEI), attrition, Crewmember mobility, and performance, as well as survey, pre-hire assessments, and general efforts linking our People data to our business data to ensure we are having the most impact.
- Strategy & Business Development – Strategy & Business Development – Historically has worked to create/manage JetBlue’s corporate strategy and support business unit’s strategic plans. In addition to this, and in light of the recent announcement to merge with Spirit Airlines, the team will begin shifting focus to planning the potential integration. The team consists of the Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer, two Directors, three Managers, and three Senior Analysts. The team prides itself on being critical thinkers and problem solvers.
- System Operations - Business Continuity & Emergency Response – Responsible for preparing for, responding to, and recovering from business interruption events – including an aviation disaster. This department’s planning focuses on recovering data, information, operations, and processes in every essential organizational function.
- System Operations - Dispatch/ Air Traffic Control – The Flight Dispatcher is a FAA certificated airmen who shares joint operational control with the Pilot in Command. The Flight Dispatcher coordinates with multiple teams, including Air Traffic System Control, The Weather team, Load Planning and System Control and is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of each JetBlue flight through preflight planning, delay, issuance of the Dispatch Flight Release and the monitoring of flight progress.
