About this role

The IT Assistant is the first point of contact for Team Members, and is responsible for helping meet their day-to-day technical operations and digital security needs. Given the nature of Access Now’s work, the Organization faces significant and potential risks, and this role is important to our efforts to build a culture of security.

Functions include troubleshooting, hands-on IT assistance, support and problem solving, and supporting staff onboarding and setup. The IT Assistant assists in planning, and delivers capacity building for staff with varied levels of technical expertise located across multiple time zones.

This position is housed within the Security & Technology team, and liaises closely with members of the Operations and Helpline teams in fulfilling duties.

What you will do

  • Support the I.T. and digital security needs of our global team and offices, focusing on the support of desktops/laptops
  • Support user administration, technical onboarding, and capacity building of Team Members
    • setup email client (using PGP encryption)
    • assist user to use password managers
    • support the installation of browser plugins
  • Contribute to the development of internal security policies, procedures, and controls
  • Support efforts to analyze digital security threats, such as suspicious emails
  • Help maintain the asset register
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Security & Technology team to meet the needs of the organisation.

You will be comfortable explaining technical solutions in simple terms and troubleshooting issues, and will draw strength from supporting colleagues and promoting good digital practices across a diverse organization. Specifically, you will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with diverse remote users
  • Some work experience in a similar or related help desk or similar role supporting the IT needs of a global organization
  • Ability to write good end-user documentation/procedures
  • Some experience supporting desktop environments running OSX and/or linux
  • Basic knowledge of email (PGP) encryption
  • Working knowledge of G-Suite products or Apple Macs
  • Some experience with ticketing administration
  • Experience in assessing phishing and other types of suspicious messages
  • Some experience of device management (Mosyle, Jamf etc.) and/or EDRs (CrowdStrike)

The Details

Location

This is a full-time position. While preference is for applications that align to our presences in Berlin, Brussels, New York City, San José (CR), or Washington, DC, we will consider applications from other regions, such as Kenya, that align to our Team Members, especially as they align to time zones across UTC +5 to UTC – 7. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces.

Remuneration

Access Now offers competitive compensation and benefits packages that align competitively with locations and regions around the world. Location-specific examples of initial placement within the salary range for this role include:

  • €3040.00 EUR gross monthly (Belgium)
  • $2610.00USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
  • €4577.00 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
  • $1850.00 USD gross monthly (Kenya)
  • $4557.00 USD gross monthly (United States)
