Your Opportunity:

The Application Portfolio Management Senior Advisor is a provincial role that fosters an operational efficiency culture and provides direction and guidance on policy, practice and strategic application portfolio management. This strategic IT leadership role is accountable for setting objectives, organizing, communicating, measuring, and developing best practices, to assist the IT Service Owners and increase operational efficiency. The APM program maintains the knowledge pertaining to total application cost of ownership, enhances services, and plans service transformation, while optimizing investment and planning and executing application decommissioning initiatives. To ensure this role can act as a successful change agent, this role must have great communication skills and be committed to developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders and IT Senior Leadership.

Description:

Accountable for managing the AHS application portfolio and ensuring that the information for making the right IT investments and divestments is available for senior leadership and key business stakeholders. Developing and executing the IT transformation strategy by helping reduce the overall application portfolio and assisting the business stakeholders in understanding the total application cost of ownership. Continuously analyzing the application portfolio to decrease unnecessary costs and free up operational staff for other strategic tasks. Assessing the technical condition of applications to reduce risk to the organization and gain insight into the true business value of the applications. Creating and maintaining the application business value and technical condition knowledge based on service owner feedback and information. Identifying and maintaining the true cost of ownership information for all applications at AHS. Develop and report on key portfolio performance measures to IT senior leadership, IT service owners, and key business stakeholders. Recommend cost savings opportunities to leadership. Understands and utilizes agile methodologies (like Scrum) to deliver value to the end users and IT Leadership quickly and efficiently. Stays well-informed of technology advancements and trends through relationships with external experts and other advanced IT organizations.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience, is required. 5 to 10 years of IT and business/industry work in a leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. At least 5 years of leadership responsibility managing midsize to large teams and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders. IT operational experience. A clear pattern of professional and personal development.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, along with problem-solving, negotiation and decision making skills to influence management, as well as internal and external partners. Relationship building and management with clinical and business, external and internal partners. Demonstrated leadership abilities, as well as effectiveness in matrix management and team building. Excellent management and consensus-building skills. Works well with others in an integrated team environment. Self-motivated, and a problem solver. Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated track record. Ability to analyze, understand and effectively communicate between business requirements and technical design and implementation. Business application life cycle experience. System development life cycle skills. Working knowledge of applications, platform and technologies supporting the business application.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strategic planning and execution. Financial management (budgeting/forecasting/managerial accounting). Communication and negotiation. Presentation skills. Leadership and management. Project management. Relationship building. Effectively working with executive level IT Leadership. Broad technology and application experience. Willingness to make decisions and accept risk. Organizational and multitasking abilities. Scrum certifications would be considered an asset. Flexibility.
