Job Overview: The Interpreter Services Specialist supports the delivery of high quality, reliable, in-person and remote language interpretation to internal and external IRC customers by fielding interpretation requests, scheduling interpreters, troubleshooting issues, satisfying recordkeeping requirements, and providing high levels of customer service.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to questions related to interpreter services programming.
  • Field internal and external customer requests for interpretation services, matching and scheduling interpreters based on customer requirements and interpreter qualifications and availability.
  • Support the recruitment, screening, and onboarding of new interpreters.
  • Independently resolve conflicts, escalating issues as necessary to program management.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, customers and interpreters.
  • Serve as technology subject matter expert by training others in the use of virtual platforms and troubleshooting related issues.
  • Provide end-to-end interpretation training support, including managing registration, preparing training materials, coordinating logistics, delivering content, and satisfying recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Assist with scheduling, proctoring, and delivery of interpreter language proficiency testing.
  • May provide occasional direct interpretation services.
  • Provide general administrative support and contribute to special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Interpretation certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional experience providing high levels of customer service required.
  • Prior scheduling experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain organized, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines within a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong command of virtual communication and training platforms.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion and sound judgment. Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and to work independently.
  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by refugee client groups is desired.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
