Department: Security and Risk Management

Position: Marketing & Communications Intern

Duty Station: HQ Amman, Jordan

Type of Appointment: Full time internship

Duration: 3-6 months, with the possibility of renewal

Expected Starting Date: 17 April 2022

Terms of Reference

BACKGROUND

The Department of Security Risk Management (DSRM) supports the UNRWA mandate by providing guidance, support, training, and facilitating risk-informed decision making through ad hoc analysis for programmes in all environments. DSRM strives to ensure that crosscutting issues including gender and protection are integrated into all the Department’s initiatives and efforts by focusing on four main pillars:

  1. Capacity Building

  2. Operational Support

  3. ARC services (Analysis, Reporting, and Communication)

  4. Security Governance

DSRM engages with the Inter Agency Security Management Network to review policies, practices, budget, and resource related issues pertaining to the United Nations Security Management System that work to improve the efficiency of security risk management.

This post reports directly to the DSRM Security Risk Management Communication & Marketing Consultant and provides assistance in development and implementation of the Department’s marketing and communication strategy.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in copywriting, translating, and producing well-presented and effective publications and other knowledge products to communicate key issues;

• Assist in coordinating, designing, and developing the publication and marketing of the Department’s reports and pamphlets;

• Assist in measuring the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and efforts through surveys and other digital tools

• Assist in market research activities with the DSRM team;

• Assist in maintaining, soliciting and updating information, case studies, news stories, information links, photographs, and SRM events for posting on the UNRWA SharePoint site;

• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or related field.

Work Experience: Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, although prior experience in communication and marketing will be an advantage.

Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English & Arabic a must;

• Excellent skills in utilizing Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);

• Good working knowledge of developing presentations, email content, social media posts, and other marketing content;

• Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint.

Intern placements shall not constitute employment by UNRWA. Interns are considered to be complementary personnel with non-staff status. The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Interns are eligible to apply as external candidates for UNRWA staff vacancies in accordance with normal selection procedures.
