ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with ABB businesses, develops the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. The Materials team at ABB’s Swiss research center in the proximity of Zurich focuses on the development and manufacturing of innovative materials to be implemented in the company’s next generation of products. We are currently offering outstanding students the chance to join our multidisciplinary team of researchers in the field of metallic and composite materials. In the frame of a six-month internship, you will be able to put theory into practice by contributing to one of our projects on future energy technologies. A better world begins with you!

Your Responsibilities

  • Contribute to current research projects focusing on innovative metal-based materials and manufacturing processes
  • Develop and optimize material manufacturing processes on the lab-scale
  • Analyze the produced materials or engineering prototypes with various characterization techniques to obtain a good understanding of the relationship between process parameters, microstructure, and material characteristics
  • Evaluate and document findings and present test results to the team

Your background

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science/Engineering or a related discipline (completion of at least six semesters); official enrollment is essential
  • Broad understanding of metallic and composite materials
  • Familiarity or experience with additive manufacturing
  • Basic knowledge in powder technology or engineering design and software tools (CAD etc.) is of advantage
  • Experience in laboratory work and know-how in experimental methods
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently
  • Highly conscientious individual with keen sense of responsibility
  • Fluent command of English, both written and spoken
