OUR FUTURE COLLABORATION
With the growing pervasion of electronics in applications such as Internet of Things (IoT) or automotive electronics, embedded security in such devices is a key element to ensure trust and to protect the devices and the user privacy.
Within an R&D team specializing in embedded systems security, the objective of this internship is to benchmark the performances and the robustness of the main Advanced Encryption Standard implementations base on threshold Implementations such as the ones introduced in [NRR06].
These implementations are known to be robust against the most challenging first order side channel attacks.
Side channel attacks exploit the physical leakage resulting from the interactions of the component and its environment during the execution of its embedded operation. An attacker will exploit these leaks which can for example be the consumption of the component or its electromagnetic emissions to find secret data. Indeed, there are links between these leaks and the variables manipulated by the algorithms. These attacks represent a real threat against on-board systems. In order to keep protected against this, countermeasures such as the one based on threshold Implementations have been developed.
The random sharing based on threshold implementation is one of the mathematically proven countermeasures proposed in the literature.
The intern will start its work by a bibliographic step while (s)he will acquire a better comprehension of the main countermeasures based on threshold implementation proposed in the literature. In a second step, the intern will translate the countermeasures into a synthesizable hardware description language in order to compare their performances and their security robustness.
