JOB TITLE: International Financial Resources Manager

DEPARTMENT: International Finance & Administration

LOCATION: East Africa

REPORTS TO: Director of International Finance & Administration

PAY RANGE: $70,000 – $90,000 USD

COMPANY SUMMARY: Eden Reforestation Projects (Eden) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization facilitating landscape restoration and community development through nature-based solutions. Eden works in developing regions of the world to protect and restore forests and ecosystems by working with local communities to address and mitigate the drivers of landscape degradation. We have active programming in East Africa, Latin America, and Asia.

POSITION SUMMARY: The International Resources Manager (IRM) will support with the management of international finances and resources. The IRM will assess internal controls to ensure that each affiliate’s accounting and reporting procedures are consistent and operating in accordance with Eden’s organizational standards and in compliance with governmental and local regulations.

If you are successful in this position, you will be able to analyze current financial processes, assess risks inherent to areas under review, identify gaps, recommend process improvements, develop tools and standard operating procedures, and support the implementation of routine internal audit practices with limited guidance.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the financial management for international activities including overseeing the financial expenditures and reporting on variances incurred to approved budgets and forecasts
  • Collaborates with country teams to support the development of annual project budgets and the quarterly reforecasting of spending
  • Provide first-line support, guidance, and training with in-country teams on policies and procedures relating to resources management matters.
  • Ensures compliance with established internal control procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices, and documentation
  • Verifies assets and liabilities by comparing items to documentation
  • Ensures assignments are completed within established time frames and that delays/issues/concerns are communicated to management on a timely basis
  • Maintains internal control systems by updating audit programs and questionnaires, and recommending new policies and procedures
  • Identifies and complies with applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations of the organization, local government agencies, regulators, or other authoritative bodies and advising management on needed actions
  • Strengthen internal controls by documenting and streamlining approval processes, including control of accounts, monitoring of cash management, and large procurements
  • Review work performed by other team members where applicable and guide to ensure conclusions are properly supported and work product meets organizational guidelines
  • Builds strong relationships with fellow team members, country accountants, managers to promote and support a culture of continuous process improvement and efficiency driving toward standardized practices
  • Review and prepare financial reports produced by country teams for accuracy and adherence to policy and providing feedback for areas of improvement
  • Review international funding requests and compare them to monthly budget and clarify reasons for variances. Prepare final version and forward for review and payment.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of written standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by staying abreast of audit and accounting standards and emerging issues in the areas applicable to the organization.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

Required Competencies:

  • Knowledge of finance and accounting theories, practices, and terminologies
  • Knowledge of governance, risk and control frameworks
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Use logic and reasoning to identify appropriate conclusions, proactively mitigate potential issues, and create order out of ambiguity

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to prioritize workload and complete tasks to meet deadlines with minimal supervision, strong attention to detail, and superb accuracy
  • Ability to gather large amounts of data and convert it into meaningful analysis and simplify complex information into a user-friendly format
  • Ability to function in a highly collaborative, friendly, and informal environment
  • Ability to work with confidential materials
  • Ability to take the initiative and a willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related business field
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive work experience in auditing and/or accounting
  • CPA (or other accounting certificate), CIA, CISA, CISSP or other relevant professional certifications preferred
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • High-level of proficiency in Quickbooks, NetSuite, Concur, and other accounting systems
  • Multilingual a plus (Spanish, Portuguese or French)
  • Willingness to travel up to 10-25% internationally
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and methods to inform financial best practices
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of Eden

Work Environment:

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential
  • Requires computer usage and sitting for extended periods of time
  • International travel required to difficult operating environments, including areas that are considered off-grid, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Extended or irregular work hours will be required as needed
