The Role

The International Programs Intern will work under the supervision of the Program Coordinator. They will collaborate closely with the Head of International Programs, the Program Development Manager, International Programs Project Officers, and wider International Programs team to support the team on a daily basis, with a focus on project management and the internal processes necessary for the effective planning, coordination, and compliance of activities.

This is a wide-ranging position touching on all aspects of CLEAR Global’s humanitarian work, involving regular engagement with team members around the world. We are looking for an autonomous team player who enjoys supporting others effectively and is interested in systems and processes, someone who proposes solutions to the challenges that arise in a fast-moving environment.

This internship is an excellent opportunity for an energetic candidate to get experience of the wide range of tasks that make up the backbone of international development and humanitarian work.

Background

In an emergency, CLEAR Global provides language support to facilitate vital two-way communication between the people affected and humanitarian responders. This happens both remotely and on the ground.

Remotely, CLEAR Global works with a global network of linguists to translate text, audio and audiovisual content from and into the languages of crisis-affected people. We also provide information, guidance, and language mapping support to humanitarian organizations.

On the ground, country program teams offer a range of support, from research and training to glossary development and pictorial communication tools.

We are also leading the development of language technology for marginalized languages. This has the potential to shift the power dynamic in emergencies and international development contexts, placing control of communication and information access in the hands of the people in need of support.

The International Programs Team coordinates program delivery putting communities at the center, combining the different organisational areas of expertise into an impactful program offering. The team is busy juggling many projects and developing new ones all the time. Country teams often require additional support from the global team, and the global team members tend to focus on external relationships leaving them insufficient time to deal with internal administrative issues and information management.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of program activities such as webinars, research, data collection, monitoring, etc. This includes logistical support for travel, accommodation, visas, etc during international programmes activities
  • In sudden-onset emergencies, contribute to fact-finding, partner outreach, proposal drafting, team mobilization and other key activities
  • Assist the International Programs team to ensure that project documentation is accurate, clear, compliant and properly tracked and filed
  • Act as the key focal point in the International Programs team for information management. This will include designing and maintaining an efficient filing system, and making sure project tracking tools are up to date (Google Drives, Hubspot, Asana, etc..)
  • Provide general administrative support as required, including preparing written documentation, filing, note-taking, arranging meetings, etc.
  • Provide support to the International Programs team with basic financial management and procurement like financial offers review, invoice reconciliation, budgeting, pricing of activities and services, transaction reviews, etc.
