The Institute of Crisis Management Studies is an established center for academia focusing on management of crises, those occurring both as a result of human activity and natural causes. It offers a unique, multidisciplinary Master of Arts in Crisis Management, providing the very best national and international scholars, practitioners and experts currently engaged in the diverse areas pertaining to crisis. ICMS also offers training, simulation exercises and field visits, not only as part of the curriculum but as practical exercises for a range of different governmental and non-governmental organizations and initiatives. Our dedication to producing crisis managers means a commitment to undertaking and facilitating the newest research in the subject and providing a forum for policy dialogues and symposiums into current issues relating to the crisis. Responsibilities

The role would be as a graduate assistant (GA) serving directly under the chair of ICMS in Kathmandu, Nepal. The GA will assist faculty and staff in composing project proposals/agreements for work with partner institutions and (I)NGOs, social media management, and other administrative duties. This role is for two years and the GA would be required to pursue a two-year Master’s degree in Crisis Management alongside the internship. This position involves cooperation with individuals from national and international governments and organizations. Accordingly, the GA must be able to represent ICMS in a responsible and effective manner.

The GA will be expected to partake in the following tasks (not wholly inclusive):

  • Various meetings and workshops with government, international organizations, and NGOs.
  • Website and social media management.
  • Writing project proposals and tender applications.
  • Field work in rural areas of Nepal.
  • Academic research.
  • Other administrative tasks as required.

Current projects the GA will have the opportunity to participate in include two projects under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Initiative, focusing on sustainable tourism and entrepreneurship in collaboration with partner universities across Europe and South Asia.

Required Qualifications and Experience

ICMS is seeking a candidate meeting the following criteria:

  • Recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in the field of the humanities or social sciences.

  • Familiar and comfortable with social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc.).

  • Fluent English speaker with excellent writing skills.

  • Knowledge of and/or experience with governments, NGOs, and international organizations is preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience living/working in Nepal or South Asia is preferred.

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

This is a challenging and rewarding role where you will be living and working in Kathmandu for two years. The position is full-time on a Nepal work schedule, 10am-4pm from Monday to Friday. The Masters programme will be conducted as evening classes from 5pm – 8pm.

Remuneration

A monthly stipend of 20,000 NPR, along with lunch/tea during office time will be provided.

The GA will also receive a 60% discounted tuition rate (4,000 USD for the entire course of study).

Please note that travel to Kathmandu, personal insurance, and visa fees will not be covered by ICMS.

Start date: As soon as possible. The MA Crisis Management course is expected to begin in mid-March.
