The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) is an internationally operating, non‐governmental and Catholic-inspired organization that serves and protects refugees, internally displaced persons and migrants regardless of faith, race, ethnicity or nationality.

 

In direct partnership with global and regional civil society partners, ICMC coordinates the Civil Society Mechanism of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) as well as the Civil Society Action Committee (AC), a platform which provides a space to civil society organisations for information sharing and collective advocacy in global migration governance, in particular, but not limited to, the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).

 

The Associate Policy and Communications Officer will form part of the small and dynamic policy team. She or he will support the team by contributing to its communications and policy or advocacy-related work, including event organizing, attending and reporting on meetings and webinars, mailing and website maintenance. Between September 2022 and 2023, a strong focus will be placed on the organising of civil society activities and engagement in the Franco-Senegalese Co-Chairmanship of the GFMD, including in the GFMD Launch Event in Dakar in the Fall of 2022 and in the GFMD Summit in Paris in December 2023. The work focus during this period will also include civil society preparations and consultations for the 2024 Regional Migration Review Forums (RMRFs).

 

Responsibilities and tasks:

Working closely with the policy team based in Europe and California, USA, and reporting directly to the team’s co-Coordinators, the Associate Policy and Communications Officer will:

– Ensure the maintenance of all communications platforms of the Civil Society Action Committee and GFMD Civil Society Mechanism (websites, social media pages, etc.), in particular for day-to-day management, regular updates, website planning and strategy.

– Develop content for social media, mailings, translations and background documents, including editing and proofreading, etc.

– Design communication outputs such as flyers, emails, newsletters and various documents for

internal and broad communication.

– Liaise with the ICMC Communications Department to coordinate publications.

– Assist in the planning, organisation and administration of any online or in-person meetings, project events, visits, conferences and business trips related to the work of the Civil Society Action Committee and GFMD Civil Society Mechanism (e.g. civil society consultations, GFMD Friends of the Forum, preparatory meetings). This includes Zoom meeting management for online meetings, and technical oversight for hybrid and/or in-person meeting.

– Assist in the preparation of program and conference reports, as well as project proposals for

donors.

– Assist with procurement of services, equipment and materials as required.

– Perform other duties as relevant to contribute to the GFMD, Civil Society Action Committee and ICMC’s policy advocacy work.

 

Profile:

– University degree in migration studies, law, international relations, public policy, administration,

event management, communications or a related field.

– Experience and ability to work collaboratively with civil society and other partners.

– Excellent level of written and spoken English is necessary. Good knowledge of French is required, Spanish and/or Arabic an asset.

– At least two years of experience in communications and social media management. Familiarity

with communications tools (Mailchimp, WordPress, design software, etc.) and extensive

knowledge of Zoom and online events management is essential.

– A prior knowledge of migration governance, migrant rights and/or global advocacy processes is a plus. A keen interest for these areas is a must.

– Experience in organising international events a plus.

– Ability to work in a small team within an international environment.

– Strong planning and organization skills are a must.

– Strong attention to detail and adaptability.

– Occasional travel within and outside of Europe may be required.
