ABOUT THE ROLE

Do you have the skills, diplomacy and tenacity to work as International Board Coordinator and help ensure the smooth running of the movement’s leadership and priority setting?

JOB PURPOSE

The International Board Coordinator provides advice, guidance and support to the International Board, and coordinates and manages the work of the Board as mandated by the Amnesty Statute.

In this role you will regularly liaise with Board members, the Secretariat’s leadership, and peers, and will join a dedicated team who support and deliver the work of Amnesty’s global governance committees.

ABOUT YOU

An organised individual with excellent communication skills, you will have a high level of professional discretion, sound political judgement, good interpersonal skills and a sophisticated grasp of planning, prioritisation and management of conflicting demands.

You will be comfortable and trusted working alongside International Board and CLT members; producing and disseminating Board minutes, reports and communications promptly; flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing priorities; managing a budget in excess of £100k; and willing to work antisocial hours / weekends as the role demands.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

To be an independent, impartial focal point for the International Board for all their decision-making processes, requests and communications; and to enable the International Board to carry out their work effectively during the global governance cycle. Responsibilities include:

  • To support the Board Chair with governance meetings advice and guidance, including agenda development, the strategic relevance of discussions, meeting format, due diligence, papers management, decision recording and post meeting information dissemination.
  • To coordinate the distribution of all documents to the Board and to the movement as appropriate, including the preparation and circulation of all Board minutes
  • To support the Director of Governance in advising the Board, CLT, IS teams and other AI governing bodies directly on matters relating to the Board’s work plans and those of several of the Board’s sub-committees.
  • Advise on relevant legal, fiduciary and governance deadlines and procedures.
  • To monitor Board expenditure and accurately report on the Board budget.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High level of knowledge and engagement around the confidentiality and sensitivity of the work.
  • The ability to work closely with, advise and brief senior management.
  • Able to work to tight timelines, often at short notice.
  • Demonstration of initiative, proactive problem solving and information sharing.
  • High levels of financial awareness and experience of managing budgets.
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • Strong flexibility around working, pre-empting and reacting to changes in plans.
  • Highly proficient administration skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and AI systems.
  • High level of logistical and event organising skills.
