What You’ll Do
The Memory Solutions Lab (MSL) is part of Samsung’s Memory Business Unit, the industry’s technology and volume leader in DRAM, NAND Flash SSD, SRAM memory. MSL’s vision is to solve key problems & optimize architecture platform for Cloud & Data center environments. Come join the team that is creating new storage system architectures needed to support emerging applications like computational storage, distributed computing, disaggregated storage, and edge computing.
You’ll work with the teams that create new computing system architectures needed to support near data processing, emerging machine learning applications, and edge computing that benefit millions of users. You’ll publish cutting edge research papers and contribute to open source software in addition to filing key patent ideas, and build enhanced storage systems software and applications to optimize the end-to-end architecture benefiting millions of users. This program will give you the opportunity work on complex solutions to that address some of the world’s most complex technological challenges.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time
Reports to: Sr. Director, Software Development Infrastructure Engineering
- Research on the topic of storage system including computational storage, micro-services, container, and SSD
- Study the performance of large-scale data-intensive applications and identify the bottlenecks
- Designing efficient systems (including CPU, memory, FPGA, and SSD) and/or frameworks for memory- and storage-intensive applications such as database, DNN, or graph application.
- Design efficient architecture and software solutions to achieve higher performance, efficiency and scalability.
- Create compelling publications to convey the value of solutions to internal and external partners, customers, technical leadership and peer-reviewed journals
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
What You Bring
- Pursuing PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- In depth knowledge of SSD, flash architecture, computer architecture and storage systems architecture including distributed systems.
- In depth knowledge and expertise of SSD and NAND flash architecture.
- System software skills including knowledge of I/O and Linux networking stack.
- Software development in C/C++, or Python with experience in multi-threading and distributed processing frameworks.
- Track record of good research and publication preferred.
- Experience with hardware accelerated architectures and systems preferred.
- Solid understand of Linux performance analysis tools and methods preferred.
