Setting and Reporting If you are passionate about Procurement and Logistics and other related topics, in support of making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, an internship with UNRWA will give you the opportunity to work on the provision of advice, training and assistance on matters and policies relating to UNRWA’s mandate and areas of operation within the Central Support Services Division, in UNRWA-HQ Amman.

UNRWA human development and humanitarian services encompass primary and vocational education, primary health care, relief and social services, infrastructure and camp improvement, microfinance and emergency response, including in situations of armed conflict.

The mandate of the Central Support Services Division (CSSD) is to ensure continued efficient, effective and high-quality support for substantive programmes in Headquarters and Field Offices in the areas of procurement, travel management, and other general administrative services.

CSSD is composed of 70 staff members.

Responsibilities

The Intern will be provided with an in-depth orientation and on-going guidance and supervision by the team lead of the Procurement Section. Other team members and CSSD staff will work with the Intern on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the selected the incumbent assimilates and understands his/her duties and responsibilities and performs his/her work with due diligence.

The Head of the Procurement Section will hold Performance Appraisal sessions with the incumbent at scheduled intervals. Constructive feedback will be provided on how the Intern can improve his/her skills and further development. The Intern will be responsible for the following duties:

• Provides support in planning, developing and managing procurement and contractual aspects of projects of related to worldwide procurement of diverse services and commodities (e.g. information technology, electronic equipment and instruments, vehicles, medicines, food commodities, building maintenance materials, office supplies, construction, furniture, etc.), taking into account local economic and other conditions.

• Assist the team on a full range of procurement issues, providing support at all stages of the procurement cycle. Prepares/oversees preparation and distribution of invitations to tender and manages/conducts all aspects of bid/proposal evaluations.

• Provide support for the drafting and preparation of submissions to the Contracts Committee for review and subsequent approval by the authorized official.

• Conducts market research to keep abreast of market developments; researches and analyzes statistical data and market reports on the world commodity situation, production patterns and availability of good and services. Identifies and recommends new technologies, and products/services, evaluates and recommends potential supply sources and participates in the incorporation of research results into the procurement program.

• Assist the drafting and preparation of a variety of procurement-related documents, contracts, communications, guidelines, instructions, etc.

• Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies

Work Experience

Experience in a professional office environment is an asset (Desirable) Knowledge of Arabic is an asset (Desirable) Languages Applicants should demonstrate excellent English communication skills, both orally and in writing, including the ability to draft documents in English. The purpose of the internship program is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
