Intern – Component & Systems Analysis – R&D Undergraduate Summer

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Summer – R&D Undergraduate Intern to work on the development of variable fidelity, Low-Cost Models (LCM) that scale across multiple levels of electrical system integration, and support rapid multi-query analysis in support of system design and qualification.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Participate and contribute to the R&D of approaches for LCMs for devices and circuits
  • Prototyping LCM modeling approaches using Python and matlab; consider modeling approaches that will allow to capture uncertainty
  • Asses the performance of the LCM w/o uncertainty
  • Simulating devices and simple circuit in Xyce
  • Utilize Dakota or other optimization/UQ tools

Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire

  • Pursuing BS in Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Strong background in mathematics and statistics
  • Experience with machine learning (ML)
  • Self motivated and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research
  • Understanding of operation of electric devices and circuits
  • Experience with Python and/or Matlab AI/ML toolboxes

Department 1356 is a multidisciplinary research and development group supporting NNSA Defense and Work for Other (WFO) programs.
