Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Background Information

The Budget Division is responsible for preparing the Organization’s annual Programme and Budget and related documents, provides advice on budgetary matters and establishes guidelines and procedures for preparing Field Office and project budgets. The Division provides guidance in ensuring that all institutional requirements are incorporated in budgets and prepares the assessment scale used to calculate Member State contributions to the Administrative Part of the Budget. It also ensures that all costs are appropriately budgeted to meet the objectives of the Organization’s activities within the limits of available resources.

Supervision

The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of Budget and the direct supervision of Budget Analyst and in cooperation with other colleagues in the Division at IOM HQ and field missions.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

The Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Assist in updating data on IOM Intranet.

  2. Assist in updating budgets in PRISM for all core funded (Admin and OSI) projects.

  3. Assist with the preparation of staff costs for budgeting purpose.

  4. Assist with the preparation of staff projectization for all core funded (Admin and OSI) projects.

  5. Assist with the review and monitoring of budget allocations and expenditures for all corefunded (Admin and OSI) projects.

  6. Organize and maintain efficient filling system.

  7. Assist with the coordination of contract extensions, vacancy notices, and travel authorizations for core funded (Admin and OSI) projects.

  8. Any other duties as may be assigned.

Training Components and Learning Elements

a) Gain experience in organization, management and international cooperation activities as well as the working group dynamics within the Division as well as the Department of Financial and Administrative Management within IOM;

b) Familiarization with major themes in the field of Finance;

c) Exposure to the multicultural environment and procedures of an international organization;

d) The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff;

e) The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and Regional Offices;

f) The Intern will gain extensive experience working in an international and multi-cultural environment.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, or any related discipline.

Experience

Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Spanish and/or French is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Eligibility and Selection

This internship opportunity is available as part of IOM’s Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program. Interns will receive a monthly stipend.

d) are either students approaching the end of their studies and preparing a thesis, or recently graduated, who have less than two years of relevant working experience. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
