Overview: DT Global is seeking an Intern to join the Afghanistan team. DT Global’s programs in Afghanistan closed in early 2022, but we continue to support our Afghan staff on the ground, including assistance with Special Immigration Visas (SIV) and P-2 referral applications as well as employee data management. The Intern will primarily collaborate and work with the Afghanistan team, but may also support the Learning and Innovation (L&I) department. L&I supports DT Global’s institutional priorities to help facilitate quality in program delivery, such as developing a program management system and standardizing programmatic reviews to capture learning and drive quality control. The L&I department provides advice and direct assistance to projects on monitoring and evaluation, research, data collection and analysis, and the use of GIS and other technology in program delivery. This is a paid opportunity and the internship is scheduled to take place from approximately mid-to-late May through August 2022.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Special Immigration Visa (SIV)

  • Process incoming requests for employment verification letters (LOEs), validating data, and drafting/issuing letters
  • Manage the Afghan Support inbox by communicating with requesters and collecting required information
  • Coordinate with the HR department for signature of LOE letters
  • Maintain and update the LOE request tracker and P-2 referral submissions
  • Assist with submitting P-2 referrals on behalf of former employees

Data Management

  • Support the file management of former employees’ documentation
  • Conduct data cleaning and updating on the DT Global employee tracker
  • Lead communications with former employees to gather missing documentation and clarify information
  • Support evacuation efforts, as needed. This would include, coordinating with the Afghan team to track movements and collect documents, communicate with staff to gather data, and compile required information in a timeline manner
  • Update and maintain external databases, as needed
  • Provide documentation support to the L&I team regarding systems, processes, quality assurance, and other support to the L&I team

Education & Minimum Qualifications:

  • Relevant college coursework in international development, political science, area studies, business administration or other relevant fields
  • Demonstrated interest in international development and a familiarity with USAID development programming preferred
  • Proven data management skills
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office tools required, particularly with Excel and Share Point
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Eager learner, flexible and someone who takes initiate
  • Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari is desirable, but not required
