We are looking for a permanent replacement for the following position Intensive Care Advisor (M/F)

Mission:

The mission of the MSF OCP Medical Department is to implement/develop MSF’s social mission, through our leadership, expertise and advocacy in the medical field.

This mission is achieved through:

  • Co-construction of medical-operational strategies,
  • Providing relevant medical support adapted to each context,
  • The permanent guarantee of improvement in quality of care and respect of medical ethics within our operations,
  • Continued operational research and new medical approaches,
  • Internal and external advocacy, based on the needs of the field, our experiences and research,
  • Maintaining a link between MSF and the external medical world.

Main responsibilities:

Given the part-time nature of the position, the critical care referent will focus on capacity building. He/she will be responsible for the intersection deployment of the BASIC LR course for doctors, within the BASIC-PTC coordination. With the coordinator, he/she formulates and implements the capacity building strategy for the management of critically ill patients, based on the needs analysis of the field.

Needs analysis

  • With the field teams, the desk and the specialty referents, you carry out a structured needs assessment of the hospital requesting the training:
    • Identify and define learning needs,
    • Ensure appropriate use of the training,
    • Investigate needs for contextualization,
    • Ensure articulation of the training with the medical strategy of the project.
  • Based on this analysis, he/she formulates a training proposal for the field and the cell.

Design

  • In collaboration with the specialty advisors, you ensure the revision and updating of training content to ensure consistency with MSF protocols and medical literature. To this end, you monitor the MSF and scientific literature.
  • In collaboration with the specialty advisors, you create pedagogical activities allowing the contextualization of the training. Depending on the importance of the work, you organize the recruitment and ensure the supervision of a training designer.
  • You submit modifications and new content for validation by the working group intersection “Emergency Medicine Anesthesia and Critical Care” (EMACC) and the external partner, the BASIC Collaboration (Chinese University of Hong Kong).
  • You design tools and processes to evaluate the quality of BASIC LR course training materials and implementation.

Develop

  • You work out the BASIC LR course deployment strategy with training units, EMACC working group and pool managers.
  • You propose new educational tools and format of course delivery (activities, smartphone app, e-learning, fragmented course delivery, bedside training, simulation exercises, serious games …).
  • You work out with EMACC, training units and BASIC collaboration the approach to developing these new features of the course.

Implement

  • You build the team of trainers for each course session.
  • You ensure supervision of the course delivery on the field.
  • You train the trainers/facilitators from all operational centres.

Evaluate

  • You analyse data from all trainings, feedback from all participants, managers and facilitators.
  • You assess and monitors training quality and skills transfers.
  • You report to all training units, nursing and EMACC working groups.

Follow-up

  • You organize course follow up with field team, medical coordination and desk.

Facilitation

  • You manage the pool of facilitators.

Profile required

Education/Experience:

  • Medical doctor specialized Intensive Care Medicine,
  • 1-year minimum experience in humanitarian field, preferably with MSF,
  • Diploma in learning/ adult education/training/or experience in providing training,
  • BASIC or BASIC LR trainer essential, certified trainer for other acute care trainings (such as ATLS, ACLS, ALSO) a plus.

Languages : Fluent oral and written English and French.

Terms of employment:

0.2 Full Time Equivalent contract (CDD). This is a managerial position based in Paris with frequent travel to MSF field sites. 52 158 gross per annum over 13 months. 5 days RTT per year. Supplementary health insurance covered at 100% by Médecins Sans Frontières. Restaurant vouchers with a face value of €9 (60% covered by Médecins Sans Frontières). 50% of the cost of public transport tickets covered.
