Intake Coordinator

The purpose of the intake coordinator is to initiate a short term disability claim for employee’s requiring sick time and to guide the employee through occupational and non occupational claims from their initial sick days/work place incident, through different phases of their absence until their return to regular work. Furthermore, the intake coordinator must ensure all paperwork is provided to employees to facilitate a seamless transition throughout the continuum of their Sick Leave.

  • Community College – Disability Management or Human Resources Management
  • 1-3 years experience in Human Resources required
  • Experience working in a large unionized multi-site environment
  • Thorough understanding of the Employment Standards Act, a strong ability to interpret the Collective Agreement language and the ability to review and understand policies and procedures within the organization
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including telephone and email
  • Demonstrated excellence in MS Word, Excel, Access, Exchange/Outlook, Schedule
  • Demonstrated ability for independent problem-solving
  • Demonstrated appreciation of the confidentiality of the role

Unit Summary

The Ability Services team, within the broader Health, Safety and Wellness department, is responsible for supporting employees through absence due to illness or injury, and ensure timely, safe and sustainable return to work. They drive the disability management and return to work process, at the individual and program level, to ensure both legislative compliance and optimization of outcomes.
