Background: The US government is offering humanitarian protection within the United States to a certain set of Afghan nationals who face risks of persecution in their home country. The International Rescue Committee is working with the US government to support the reception, processing and preparation for onward relocation of Afghan families that are offered in safe haven where new arrived families reside for the first 2 -4 weeks after arrival to the US.

As a part of a broader 5-day Cultural Orientation curriculum offered to all adults at the safe haven, the 6-hour Safety and Wellbeing module aims to build knowledge, awareness and coping skills that help uphold psychological safety, reduce impact of trauma and prevent abuse and exploitation of newcomers as the adjust to life in US following displacement.
Scope: As a part of dedicated team, and with the support of qualified interpreters, the Instructor will directly deliver instruction on Safety and Wellbeing in the United States (SAWUS) based on guidance and key content set out in a common curriculum. The instructor will prepare, deliver and track each of up to 5 session assigned each week, and be available to support other Cultural Orientation classes as needed.
Job Duties:

·Prepare classroom and materials for each session in accordance with roster provided, serving 10 -25 adults session

·Deliver core content in accordance with common curriculum applying evidence-based approaches to adult learning

·Apply and adapt method to ensure inclusion across diverse levels of literacy, English language proficiency and learning styles

·Track attendance

·Collaborate with SAWUS and broader CO team to extract lessons learned and adjust curriculum to best serve needs of Afghan guests.

·Consult with Protection Advisors, Trauma-Infomred Care Specialist and Information Specialists on concerns and needs that arise in the classroom context.

·Other duties assigned by Cultural Orientation Lead.

Requirements:

·A minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching adults in a cross-cultural context (e.g. Cultural Orientation, Life Skills, Parenting, ESOL)

·Good commend of principles of adult learning

·Prior experience in psychoeducation or support groups, and/or in prevention of domestic violence, child abuse or human trafficking a plus

·Must be available to work fulltime through September 2022

Work environment:

·Standard Mon – Fri work week

·Commute to safe haven locations daily
