Institutional Funding Manager (Ukraine)

We are looking for a proactive and driven individual with a proven track record of generating significant funds from institutional donors, ideally within the overseas humanitarian and development sectors, to deliver significant and sustainable funding to support our continued emergency response and longer-term recovery efforts in Ukraine. As a global homelessness charity, we also have big ambitions for the future, so you will also be called upon to support our ambitions to end homelessness across the globe. This is an exciting role for an experienced candidate to make a significant impact on people’s lives, both in Ukraine and around the world. Our Head Office is in London, UK, but applications would be welcomed from candidates based in other locations.

Deliverables:

Help Depaul meet its objectives by meeting or exceeding funding targets. Key responsibilities might include, but are not limited to:

Institutional Funding

  • Creating and implementing a multi-year development strategy / operational plan that maximises financial support from institutional donors in order to meet or exceed seven-figure annual income targets.
  • Working with the service delivery teams to understand their key activities, services, funding context and challenges.
  • Proactively identifying and assessing the suitability of funding opportunities from a wide variety of sources, including potential partnership bids, to secure significant support from institutional donors.
  • Coordinating input from across the organisation to develop sound business cases, budgets and compelling, comprehensive and competitive requests for support.
  • Leading on funding applications to, and negotiations with, institutional and other relevant donors, including but not limited to UN, UN Pooled Funds, Red Cross, FCDO, ECHO, Caritas, JRS, and ICMC. This will include developing joint application with family networks, etc.
  • Establishing, strengthening, and maintaining strong and effective working relationships with donors and partner organisations.
  • Providing contract management support for programmes and projects and leading on the development and submission of high quality, timely and compliant reporting.

Programme quality, systems and standards

  • Actively supporting the translation of bid narratives into compliant implementation plans.
  • Working with programme staff to make sure effective systems are in place for monitoring and evaluation of institutionally funded programmes, ensuring that staff and partner organisations included in funding applications are aware of donor requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Promoting and ensuring compliance with Depaul Group policies and minimum standards
  • Promoting compliance with sectoral, development and humanitarian standards on accountability and programme quality, including the Red Cross Code of Conduct ad SPHERE standards where relevant and actively engaging with CHS on accountability.
  • Managing bid debriefs to ensure learning is captured and informs the continuous improvement of development practices across the organisation.
  • Collaborating with DPI Programme Team and Subsidiaries in promoting systems and standards of Programme Cycle Management.

Representation, communication and teamwork

  • Working collaboratively with the Communications team to ensure that materials are accurate and compliant with donor requirements/restrictions.
  • Sharing knowledge to benefit the wider team, providing valuable input into fundraising activities across other income streams.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to programme staff and where necessary building the capacity of local partners on programme development, proposal writing and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Keeping abreast of donor policy developments and representing Depaul in relevant funding groups / networks.
  • Liaising with country-based staff on possible regional or joint programme funding opportunities.
  • Ensuring that all relevant information is recorded on DPI’s supporter database in a timely manner.
  • Upholding all relevant regulations and codes of practice, particularly the Institute of Fundraising, Fundraising Regulator and Data Protection legislation.
  • Regularly reporting on income performance, both projected and actual, and taking effective action to address any shortfalls.
  • Keeping up to date with professional best practice and recent trends and sharing knowledge appropriately across the group.

What we are looking for – Person Specification

Essential skills and experience

  • Understanding of, and a commitment to, the vision, mission and values of Depaul International.
  • An understanding, commitment and willingness to advocate for Vincentian values and the Depaul Group.
  • Significant experience of successfully applying to and managing funding from institutional donors, ideally in overseas development and/or the humanitarian sector.
  • Experience of writing compelling proposals and reports that require gathering technical information from multiple sources and analysing verbal and numerical data to develop compliant and compelling narratives.
  • Experience of developing and implementing monitoring systems to track the effectiveness of programmes, with experience of compliance and contract management for institutionally funded humanitarian projects.
  • Ability to take the initiative, work autonomously, adhere to tight deadlines, and prioritise effectively.
  • Ability to develop, monitor and manage budgets, and accurately forecast income. Able to assess the appropriateness of financial systems to ensure compliance.
  • Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to build cooperative, professional and effective working relationships with donors, partners and colleagues both nationally and internationally.
  • Understanding of the principles of Project Cycle Management and logframes.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English with excellent and persuasive communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to represent the charity at the highest levels.
  • Competent in the use of core Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Commitment to working within an environment that promotes Equal Opportunities and has regard for the Health and Safety of others.

Desirable

  • Experience using a fundraising CRM system.
  • Understanding of homelessness and social exclusion, and its impact on people’s lives.
