Role Description

Reporting to the director of institutional development, the institutional development coordinator is an integral member of the institutional development team and is responsible for conducting a full range of development activities that support fundraising plans for the programmatic areas of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), including assistance with maintaining key institutional and prospect relationships; project management; proposal management; donor and prospect moves management; and donor outreach and prospect research.

Responsibilities

  • In consultation with the director of institutional development, implement short- and long-term strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional funders for general and restricted support;
  • Support the executive director, chief marketing and development officer, and the director of institutional development in day-to-day tasks and activities, including researching and creating donor profiles; prioritizing and arranging appointments; composing/editing routine correspondence; prioritizing work; and providing project management;
  • Identify new prospective institutional donors and perform prospect research utilizing available research tools; prepare donor briefings;
  • Assist with prospect management activities, including tracking actions and organization information in the Salesforce database;
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of existing and potential funders;
  • Keep track of proposals and deliverables and ensure adherence to all deadlines through the project management platform and Salesforce;
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to capture and leverage constituent data for fundraising and deeper engagement;
  • Collaborate with the communications team to assist in cultivation and stewardship efforts, both digital and print, that attract new funders and grow overall support;
  • Manage data inputs from several sources for the institutional development department;
  • Run complex queries and reports from Salesforce; prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as well as customized dashboards for tracking progress;
  • Promote grant tracking procedures and standardization through trainings and resource creation; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree, with three or more years of demonstrated successful development experience; experience with foundation relations and government grants a plus;
  • Strong judgement and decision-making skills;
  • Outstanding communications skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to write and edit persuasively on a wide range of human rights issues, and the ability to grasp and communicate substantive PHR programs;
  • Exceptional research and synthesis skills, and a very high bar for work product;
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy;
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational skills time-management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, while meeting deadlines;
  • Mature, flexible, resourceful, and a fast learner, with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with donors, and represent the organization tactfully and diplomatically;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) with advanced knowledge of Excel; experience with a donor database such as Salesforce a plus;
  • Ability to plan efficiently, organize, and manage several projects simultaneously with limited supervision or direction, while meeting deadlines; and
  • A commitment to human rights is essential.
