Organisation Background:

Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.

INSO provides daily support to more than 1200 NGOs operating in 16 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands- the international city of peace and justice.

INSO Palestine:

The INSO Palestine platform is launching in response to the ongoing crisis in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPT). Based in Amman, Jordan, this new programme will support NGOs providing much-needed humanitarian assistance amid a complex safety and access environment. The team will harness data and insights to provide timely analysis and coordination services to assist humanitarians navigating significant risks to staff and beneficiaries. As part of the INSO Palestine team, you will be playing an active and impactful role in assisting the delivery of aid to people in significant need.

Job Summary:

As the Information Manager, you are responsible for complete understanding of all Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC) data entry, capabilities, storage, and security. You are the focal point for CHDC and the Partner’s Portal (IPP). In addition, you will provide technical support to the programmes team for creating visualisations and dashboards. This post is based in Amman, Jordan and reports to the Safety Advisor. This is a 3 month contract with the intention to extend this role pending funding. We are looking for a start date as soon as possible.

Major Responsibilities:

Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC)

  • Be the focal point of CHDC and understand the methodology with expert knowledge of the platform
  • Ensure that information recorded is correctly categorized, promptly updated, and is properly accessed
  • Monitor, assess, and continuously improve the accuracy and precision of data collected
  • Provide CHDC training and inductions to staff

INSO Partners Portal (IPP)

  • Be the focal point of IPP and understand the registration process
  • Guide the partners through the registration process and provide solutions to questions about the system
  • Monitor and update the registration of INSO partners

Visualization activities

  • Fill information needs and sources in collaboration with the team
  • Aggregate data for analysis and presentation
  • Produce high quality maps, graphs, and other products to support INSO’s analysis and facilitate NGOs’ understanding of the conflict
  • Provide visual-relevant inputs to field missions

Technical Reference

  • Manage and regularly update SharePoint folders with relevant materials

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Relevant graduate level education or equivalent work experience.
  • Outstanding writing and analytical skills
  • Demonstrable understanding of humanitarian safety and access practices & principles and their application.
  • Ability to adapt to multi-cultural and diverse social backgrounds.
  • Understanding and commitment to the humanitarian principles of independence, impartiality and neutrality.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, GIS, or relevant field
  • Fluency in English required
  • 3 or more years of experience in data management and visualization, in a similar humanitarian organization and context
  • Experience in GIS tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.
  • Experience with Power BI and DAX, or similar BI software (such as Tableau)
  • Knowledge of database management using SQL
  • Staff management experience

Nice to have

  • Acceptance and understanding of humanitarian principles
  • Knowledge in scripting languages such as Python or R
  • Knowledge of Arabic language
  • Familiarity with the operating environment in oPT

Terms & Conditions

Three month fixed-term (renewable) full-time contract based in Amman, Jordan. This position is open to national and expatriate candidates.
