About Our Client

SASP are looking to recruit a passionate and committed person to help evidence and communicate the positive power of sport and physical activity to change the lives of our community in Somerset. This role will support our new strategy, Somerset Moves. We are enhancing our understanding of the impact, measurement and learning achieved through our varied projects, all designed to tackle inequalities and improve the health and lives of people in Somerset.

This exciting new role will lead our insight work. You will be fundamental in helping us achieve our goal of providing effective impact and learning support by taking ownership of the development, championing and delivery of this area of work.

Applying your skills, you will work with various project teams including members of staff across the organisation to help plan, measure, and disseminate the impact and learning achieved through our projects.

Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities and Key Duties of the Job

  • As part of SASP Senior Management Team (SMT), lead and manage the development of SASP’s

approach and associated processes around Impact and Measurement, proactively inspiring and

developing a positive learning and impact culture.

  • To develop a culture of learning across the organisation, ensuring our Evaluation Framework is

embedded across all our work areas; to work with local partners where appropriate to do the same.

  • Work with Project Teams to embed impact measurement and learning into our projects throughout

the project cycle – from project ideation through to end of project review.

  • Lead the development and implementation of evaluation frameworks and research methods,

including quantitative and qualitative approaches.

  • Identify gaps in existing insight and assist in addressing these gaps where appropriate, conducting

and commission relevant research when required.

Impact and Learning Manager

  • Established theory of change models for core areas of work, and common impact indicator

frameworks to enhance project planning and reporting.

  • Share and embed our evaluation approach across Somerset and with our partners, supporting the

system to share learning through reports, tools and webinars.

  • Establish tools and templates to allow us to gather and manage quality information and embed this

with staff in the organisation.

  • Design and deliver training on implementing impact practice and associated tools, sharing both

internally and externally.

  • Manage and develop SASP’s impact and learning data ensuring it can be utilised for effective

analysis, reporting and decision making.

  • Develop reports and progress updates for a range of stakeholders, SASP’s Board.
  • Develop an online insight hub which can also be accessed by our partners and ensure this has a

robust data set for county and priority population groups.

  • Establish a methodology to communicate the data sets and insights to influence policy and practice.
  • Lead on the analysis of Sport England’s Active Lives Surveys (Adults and Children) at a national

and county level producing reports to share with staff and our partners across Somerset.

  • Work with partners and stakeholders, especially Somerset Public Health to share insight and data to

ensure that our insight allow a collaborative approach and ensure our data sets are not siloed.

  • Utilise appropriate software to display research and insight information in a visually appealing and

easily digestible format.

  • To collaborate and engage with Research and Insight Leads across other local Active Partnerships

and across the network to share best practice and drive organisational improvement in this area.

  • To represent SASP on committees and groups within the county, regionally and nationally.
  • To be an active member of our Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic discussions and

helping to shape plans for the organisation.

  • Undertake any other duties and participate in projects commensurate with the nature and grading of

this post or at the direction of the line manager.
