FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall administrative supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager or designated person, the incumbent reports to the Chief of DSSU (or designated OIC) within the Office of the Chief, SGITT and by reference to the United Nations Financial Rules and Regulations, the Digital Workspace Support Officer (DWSO) will be responsible for supporting the portfolio of applications and systems that supports digital employee experience and elevates the digital dexterity of the workforce. This ICT Specialist – DWSO is expected to promote curiosity for new technology, to be relentless in the pursuit of new ways of working and has strong business relationship acumen. This ICT Specialist – DWSO plays a pivotal in delivering the future of work by assisting in the crafting of a digital workplace program that supports the workforce of today and the future.

The ICT Specialist – DWSO is expected to champion the digital employee experience by supporting the four key SGITT digital transformation tenets:

  • Creation a culture that enables digital dexterity — the ambition and ability to use technology for better business outcomes
  • Development of a digital workplace strategy that delivers a productive and positive digital employee experience
  • Delivery of business-enabling technology by harmonizing applications within a digital workplace framework
  • Establishment of partnerships among key stakeholders and line of business (LOB) leaders to ensure that digital workplace initiatives support business outcomes

The Digital Workspace Support Officer will support SGITT in the provision of Innovative and Transformative Digital Solutions to the UNGSC. The primary duties of the ICT Specialist – DWSO will be to support SGITT the following areas:

  • Development and support of a digital workplace environment that provides focus to program goals to modernize applications, support new ways of working and enable business transformation.
  • Seeking out innovative technology trends that should be brought into the workplace and gather digital workplace best practices by participating in continuing education, peer groups and industry events.
  • Supporting and facilitating innovative digital workplace applications and strategies to test new ideas to support the future of work.
  • Development and support of a culture of workforce digital dexterity by supporting different Digital Transformation initiatives.
  • Exploring and improving how employees digitally engage with each other, as well as with customers and business partners.
  • Popularizing new technology and applications to drive business innovation throughout the organization.
  • Utilizing organizational change management best practices to drive technology adoption.
  • Fostering the rise of the transformative business technologist who applies specialized technical skills to the digital workplace application autonomously to deliver competitive business results.
  • Directing the awareness of and experimentation with disruptive and innovative digital workplace technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Simulated Reality (SR) and immersive meeting solutions.
  • The ICT Specialist – DWSO will perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Impact of Results
The impact of the post in question is to satisfy the requirements of the UNGSC in relation to its Digital Transformation efforts.

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Information Systems, Business Administration, Technology, or related discipline.
  • A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) and an additional two (2) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.

Experience:
Required:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in direct management of digital workplace applications, including enterprise intranet, web portal, cloud office and/or digital collaboration applications or related areas in a large organization
  • Minimum 2 years in championing the digital employee experience i.e. holistic experience with the digital workplace provided by IT

The following experience is desirable. Candidates who do not have experience in these areas are welcome to apply:

  • Knowledge and working experience with UN rules and regulations.
  • Ability to lead, build and sustain effective work relationship with subordinates and peers to achieve common goal.
  • Understanding of UN programmes, policies, and coordination mechanisms.
  • Ability to effectively manage and work in a multicultural environment.
  • Innovation and organizational change management experience.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills, ability to build a positive and strong team spirit with staff.
  • ITIL V4 Certification(s).

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an asset.
