Purpose of the post

The ICT Specialist 1 provides the ICT systems and services support in the location where they are based, and they can also be assigned to support other sites for the ICT projects. They assist the field ICT Engineer in designing and installing the ICT infrastructure.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and monitors ICT equipment in line with ICRC standards.
  • Briefs end-users on standard computer systems (hardware and/or software), provides technical advice and assistance with IT equipment and its use and provides remote support when needed.
  • Maintains and installs local network including cabling, switches and NIC configuration TCP/IP, NAT, TCP/IP printing, and windows network services.
  • Manages inventory by monitoring database(s) and carrying out regular physical checks; manages stocks.
  • Allocates equipment in an efficient manner, taking into account users’ needs and ICRC policies.
  • Keeps track of equipment allocations, dispatches equipment and follows up on shipments to and from other ICRC sites.
  • Places orders for parts, equipment and tools, locally or in Geneva, according to standing procedures and in collaboration with the administration and logistics.
  • Handles relations with the internet service provider regarding fees, level of service, etc., together with the administration.
  • Keeps technical documentation up to date for all IT installations.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.

Desired profile and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in IT, electronics, computer science or similar field.
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English.
  • Good knowledge of computer networking and Radio Telecommunication.
  • 2–3 years’ troubleshooting experience in an area of the ICT service catalogue (e.g., workplace services, telecommunications, IT, help desk, etc.).

You are strongly motivated by humanitarian work, with a capacity to engage, persuade and influence others. This role requires key competencies of teamwork and collaboration and accountability.

As part of the role, you would also need a proficient level in Functional Competencies of Change Control (ICT), Service Delivery & Operations, and Problem Management (ICT).
