Overview of the department

DCU ICE is a strategic initiative designed to bring together, highlight, publicise and develop, DCU’s extensive activity across the areas of innovation, creativity and enterprise. The existing activity in these areas will continue and develop across the university, led by academics and students, while ICE will provide a mechanism to make this activity visible and highlight areas of potential collaboration, synergy and opportunity.

Role Profile

The ICE Project Lead will play a central role in supporting the practitioners to realise the potential of the ICE initiative. The development of an ICE web site, a database of ICE activity, and coordinating the relationships with companies, partners and internal stakeholders are key aspects of this role. The Project Lead will provide support to the ICE Working Group and its Chair, by managing relevant events etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist with the development of an ICE strategy which will cultivate a holistic and comprehensive ‘DCU brand’ of Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise, including appropriate branding and marketing

• Liaise with internal stakeholders across the academic faculties, and with DCU Alpha companies, to identify opportunities for teamwork and access to expertise.

• Develop a marketing and awareness campaign to attract funding into the accelerator programme.

• Develop an entrepreneurship accelerator programme of workshops, advice clinics, matching of staff and student needs to existing expertise (internal and external)

• Develop of a database of existing relevant activity

• Develop of a matrix of related activity to achieve cohesion, economies of scale, leverage resources and increase impact

• Ensure synergy with the curriculum (DCU Futures), DCU Alpha, international relationships (e.g. ECIU) and Student Entrepreneurship activities amongst others

• Identify funding opportunities and assist with the application process, providing coordination across relevant stakeholders in submission and acquisition of a stream of grant income, to make the area and the post self-funding.

• Supervise the ICE Enterprise Development Co-ordinator

Essential

· A primary degree is essential for this role

In addition, the successful candidate will ideally have:

• 5+ years’ experience in project management/coordination across multiple departments or organisations

• Experience of successfully delivering in the innovation/entrepreneurship area

• Experience of industry/academic liaison

• Energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic approach

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Self-starter

• Strong IT skills

• Experience of projects or organisations in the area of innovation, creativity or entrepreneurship would be an advantage as would a qualification in project management

Essential Training

The postholder will be required to undertake the following essential compliance training: Orientation, Health & Safety and Data Protection (GDPR). Other training may need to be undertaken when required.

Salary Scale: Professional 5: €50,176 -€60,452.00

Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy
