Airlink, Inc.

Humanitarian Programs Manager

Airlink is a humanitarian organization that connects airlines with vetted nonprofits to deliver disaster responders and supplies to communities in crisis worldwide.

The Humanitarian Programs Manager plays a key role in the operational delivery of this mission by coordinating across Airlink’s partner network during responses, managing key relationships in between emergencies, and contributing to sector-wide initiatives that build logistics capacity and improve the overall support provided to communities in crisis following an emergency.

Due to the nature of Airlink’s mission in support of disaster response, there will occasionally be an expectation to work extended hours or on weekends and holidays, with limited advance notice.

Washington, DC-based candidates are preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

Operations (45%)

  • Driving preparedness to respond to emergencies through ownership of the Asia Pacific Regional Response Plan (as part of Airlink’s Regional Response Framework), which includes continuous scanning of high-risk countries, identification of key regional partners, analysis of operational and logistical constraints within the region, and management of day-to-day aspects of responses in the region.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information regarding humanitarian needs and logistics challenges following an emergency, to inform operational decision-making within Airlink and across its partner network.
  • Coordinating Airlink’s passenger and cargo operations relating to humanitarian crises, whether during the response, recovery, or preparedness phase, in conjunction with the Director of Humanitarian Programs and the Associate Director of Humanitarian Programs. This includes liaising with nonprofits to ascertain demand for passenger and cargo movement following an emergency, engaging airlines and other logistics partners to identify airlift opportunities, coordinating with Airlink’s freight forwarding partners regarding specific requirements for the movement of humanitarian cargo.
  • Where requested, deploying to the field to coordinate with partners, better understand air logistics needs, and effectively communicate the impact of Airlink’s operation to wider stakeholders.
  • Delivering logistics capacity-building and preparedness initiatives within the Asia Pacific region, such as technical guidance notes and partner learning events.
  • Identifying opportunities to optimize Airlink’s operating model, including through the utilization of Salesforce and other technology tools.

Resource Mobilization (25%)

  • Proactively identifying opportunities to mobilize resources in support of projects aligned with Airlink’s mission, including foundations and others.
  • Developing and managing proposals, including monitoring & evaluation, and reporting requirements, in conjunction with the Associate Director of Humanitarian Programs and Airlink’s development team.
  • Leading the delivery of funded projects, including supervision of consultants where required.

Account management (20%)

  • Proactively managing relationships at multiple levels with key Airlink partners, including nonprofit partners, airlines and logistics partners, and other stakeholders, such as national government disaster management agencies and private sector actors.
  • For allocated accounts, this will include acting as the primary point of contact during an emergency, leading engagement throughout the year to understand the strategic direction and needs of that partner, and coordinating engagement by Board members and other Airlink advocates.

Other (10%)

  • Contributing to the wider Airlink operation, including development and communications activities.
  • Representing Airlink at humanitarian, logistics, and aviation conferences in the Asia-Pacific region

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
