Educo, member of ChildFund Alliance, is a global NGO for development cooperation and humanitarian action that works in favor of children and the defense of their rights, especially the right to access to quality education. We promote sustainable social change by improving the conditions of vulnerable populations, especially children. Therefore, our action is based on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our three institutional objectives are: education, protection and governance.

We work in Spain and in countries in Africa, America and Asia, in more than 178 projects, 4,800 schools, and benefiting 1,600,000 children, adolescents and young people, 1,900,000 adults to promote just and equitable societies that guarantee their rights and well-being.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION?

We are looking for a professional with solid knowledge and experience with major humanitarian donors, to develop our donor and grant portfolio and thus contribute to maintain/diversify external funding sources for our humanitarian action programs.

This position is part of the Resource Mobilization Unit, a dynamic and multicultural team within the department of Marketing and Fundraising.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Donor engagement: Attract a wide variety of donors through activities focused on donor prospecting, as well as promotion of Educo’s actions and expertise.

  • Map funding opportunities in the humanitarian sector and develop an annual funding plan to achieve the fundraising objectives
  • Ensure high quality relationships with donors and implement outreach initiatives to new donors.
  • Support Country Offices in identifying donor relationship opportunities.

2. Grant Acquisition: supervise proposals development process ensuring good coordination of resources and activities at country, regional and HQ levels.

  • Ensure high quality proposals and budgets by guiding Country Offices on donors’ priorities, requirements and expectations, and coordinating with key departments (programs, finance, MERA, etc.).
  • Support Country Office leadership at the global level in all aspects of the humanitarian action proposal design process and also, if necessary, support Africa Country Offices for development cooperation proposals. In strategic proposals, contribute directly to the elaboration of proposals and budgets.
  • Act as a focal point for knowledge of donor regulations and requirements.
  • Oversee the work of Country Offices to ensure coordination and adherence to proposal deadlines.

3. Grant management: manage a portfolio of humanitarian donor projects (DG ECHO, etc.) proactively monitoring compliance with obligations to donors, from grant award to project closure, ensuring that the project teams involved are aware of and understand the applicable regulations.

  • Monitor with the country office teams the execution of projects at the technical, administrative and economic levels, in order to identify and anticipate possible deviations.
  • Ensure that key personnel are aware of contractual obligations with donos and that deadlines are respected.
  • Provide expert advice and training to projects teams on donors’ requirements and regulations, as well as on grant management.
  • Review reports to be submitted to donors ensuring that they meet donors’ requirements and are submitted on time.
  • Ensure proper supporting document management.

WHAT TYPE OF PROFESSIONAL WE ARE LOOKING FOR?

  • Advanced studies in Social Sciences and Humanities and/or postgraduate studies in international cooperation and humanitarian action. Other training will also be valued if accompanied by work experience.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in formulation and management of projects funded by institutional donors.
  • Excellent fluency in Spanish, French and English (written and oral)
  • Excellent Project Cycle Management skills
  • Solid knowledge of the rules and regulations of donors in the humanitarian sector (DG ECHO, UN Agencies, GAC, AECID humanitarian etc.). Knowledge of development cooperation donors valuable.
  • Strong understanding of child rights and protection and desirable knowledge of education and child protection in humanitarian action.
  • Results orientation, problem solving and effective management of multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

High ability to work and lead tasks independently while working in a team environment

LOCATION AND CONTRACT

The position will be based at our headquarters in Barcelona or delegation in Madrid, with short-term field visits when required

Type of Contract: Indefinite full-time contract

Remuneration: according to the salary tables of the organization.
