Internews Network

ABOUT INTERNEWS’ HUMANITARIAN PROGRAMS

In humanitarian crises, people affected by unfolding events need more than physical necessities: they urgently need information. Internews has played a pioneering role in the field of humanitarian communications, working closely with local media and aid agencies to ensure that people affected by crises have access to timely, reliable information in languages they understand, and have the opportunity to feed back to humanitarian agencies to inform response efforts.

The Internews Humanitarian department works with communities, humanitarian organizations and local media in emergencies to develop cutting edge tools and strategies for improving communication flows between humanitarian organizations, local media and the people affected by the crisis.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Humanitarian Director is a senior humanitarian professional with a demonstrable understanding of and/or track record in best practice in Community Engagement and Accountability and how it contributes to improved inclusion, transparency and accountability for people affected by a humanitarian crisis. The Humanitarian Director leads a technical team that operationalizes Internews humanitarian strategy through both indirect and direct implementation and advisory support, responding to both protracted and acute crises. The role includes providing policy and advocacy leadership and representation in the humanitarian funder and implementer community, oversight of humanitarian technical leads and their input in project design and implementation, matrix management of humanitarian projects across multiple regions and collaboration with Monitoring, Evaluation and Knowledge Management colleagues to capture and evolve Internews humanitarian best practices.

LOGISTICS

Internews has Headquarters offices in Arcata, CA; Washington, DC; and London, UK. The selected candidate may work fully remotely, or partially remote from one of our Headquarters offices. Our ideal candidate is based in the United States or United Kingdom; however, remote candidates based elsewhere will also be considered. You must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews. Additionally, there are some locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work.

Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so candidates are encouraged to apply soon.
