Humanitarian Access and Safety Assistant_National Contract (1 Post Maban)

Under the guidance and supervision of the Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer and the technical guidance of the Humanitarian Access safety and security manager, the security assistant will be responsible for assisting the Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer in the execution of his security responsibilities at the assigned duty station.

The post holder will report to the Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer, work in close collaboration and coordination with Safety and Security Focal persons, will ensure safety and security of SCI staff and properties in Maban refugee camps and within the host community.

As a security focal person, gather safety security and access related information using relevant sources, Analyse the criticality of the information and escalate to next level/ line managers, Conduct radio checks; Vehicle and staff movement logs confirming safe travel, arrivals and departures, to monitor staffs movement between Maban and other sites within the project area of coverage, Ensure that the agreed physical security measures for doors, gates and window are implemented and Ensure that staffs who receive security briefings and orientations, signed the relevant form, File all security related documents according to DHAS guidanc

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Diploma from a recognised institution

Essential

  • Minimum 1 year in humanitarian organisation

  • Familiarity with the use of VHF and HF radio and satellite phone will be an added advantage.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic language will be an added Advantage.

  • Ability to use initiative and show tenacity when dealing with different situations

  • Adaptable and flexible; Able to work early morning hours

  • Ability to travel to the field – infrequent

  • Ability to organise work effectively

  • Work experience in insecure/hostile environments.

  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural, multi ethnic team

  • Sound knowledge of humanitarian principles of impartiality and neutrality as outlined in the Humanitarian Charter and the International Red Cross Code of Conduct.

  • Understanding of and commitment to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

  • Ability to liaise and network with various partners.

  • Conflict resolution techniques with ability to understand and foster good working relationship with host and refugee community.

Desirable

  • Representational skills;
  • NGO experience an added advantage
  • Knowledge of local language spoken in an asset

Contract Duration: 7 Months

Location: South Sudan, Maban Field Office.
