Terre des Hommes Netherlands (TdH NL) aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation and by empowering children to make their voices count. TdH NL focuses on sexual exploitation of children, forms of child labour, child trafficking and migration, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and on child protection in humanitarian crises. For each of these forms of child exploitation, TdH NL is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia and Africa. In Africa, TdH NL works in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Tanzania.

Objectives of the internship

Human Resources (HR) Intern will learn and apply international employment laws in HR projects. S/he will work closely with HRBP-Africa to provide support in administering of HR programs, processes, and systems. Also, s/he will work with the country team to provide support in implementation of HR processes and systems in accordance with local rules and regulations. S/he will have an opportunity to learn and implement specific projects in Human Resources programs including but not limited to Recruitment, Onboarding, Policy review and HRMIS.

Position in the organization

The Intern will be under the guidance and leadership of the HRBP-Africa region based in Nairobi.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

(General overview but not limited to)

  • Keep up to date and learn the various employment labour laws and HR regulations of the countries that TdH NL operates in Africa region
  • Collaborate with HRBP to review and update HR policies/Handbook
  • Assist with data cleaning on the K-Drive, and upload of necessary files to the HR system Bamboo in consideration of the Data protection requirements of all the files on K-drives
  • Depending on job openings, manage job post on job boards, careers pages and social networks
  • Screen job applications and resumes through online platform
  • Assist in updating onboarding guidelines and conduct new hire evaluation
  • Performing any other duty as may be assigned by the line manager.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Human Resources Management or similar field OR
  • Recently completed (less than a year) a bachelor’s/master’s degree program in Human Resources Management but with ongoing CHRP qualification studies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • French language will be an advantage
  • Familiarity with the Human Resources Information System will be an added advantage.
