Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of Human Resources
  • Establish company policies and procedures ensuring we are both fair to everyone and that we meet or exceed any government or legislated requirements and to comply with AIMS corporate programs
  • Reports through daily conversation, memos as required, weekly written reports, quarterly reviews of mandates and action plans, and annual performance reviews
  • Responsible for bi-weekly payroll of all staff
  • All communication between Aspire Bakeries and the Union.
  • Ensure compliance with all Corporate and applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure people are treated fairly and with respect and that we keep a happy and healthy work environment where everyone feels their efforts are appreciated
  • Ensure our Company is recruiting and selecting the best possible talent to ensure high food safety/quality work standards
  • Conducting audits of payroll, benefits, and other HR programs, and recommending corrective actions
  • Conduct interviews in conjunction with the Managers and Supervisors
  • Developing and conducting training programs for managers to improve recruiting and hiring efficiencies and reduce turnover
  • Researching, analysing, preparing, and presenting hiring statistics
  • Co-ordinate the training initiatives in the Company in conjunction with the rest of the Management team
  • Ensure training sessions that give our team members all the required training needed as well as providing training to have people excel in their jobs
  • Manage personnel files and performance management systems so that people know what is needed for them to continually improve in their jobs and so that we have a fair and pro-active vehicle for reviewing our employee base
  • Assist in managing the WCB Claims Management Process alongside the H&S manager
  • Promote Occupational Health and Safety within the organization and develop a safer work environment
  • Manage and maintain our compensation systems including the updating of our Company compensation grid and hourly rate schedule to ensure team that is remunerated fairly
  • Work towards reducing WCB costs and all associated programs in conjunction with the Health & Safety Manager
  • Deal with employees on issues pertaining to everyday HR activities including work related concerns or anything dealing with Safety in the Workplace
  • Acts as a non-biased second avenue for employees to address any issues they may have with the company or any people in the company
  • Manage employee-related programs
  • Assist in co-ordinating extra-curricular events such as the Company events, Christmas lunch, BBQ, long service award, and any other employee-based events
  • Assist the Managers in the judicial use of temporary Labour in the facility
  • Reports through daily conversation, memos as required, weekly written reports, quarterly reviews of mandates and action plans and annual performance reviews
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
  • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
  • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
  • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
  • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
  • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
  • Complete incident reports for all FM/GMP incidents
  • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education with good oral and written English skills
  • 5-7 years of experience managing and leading people in a continuous process manufacturing environment and 3-5 years’ experience supervising unionized workers
  • Food industry background supervising unionized workers preferred
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and SAP preferred
  • Understanding of the Collective Agreement
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Proven record in successful planning, decision-making, and problem-solving
  • Ability to supervise/lead others in a positive employee relations climate
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with experience in report writing
  • Ability to supervise/lead others in positive employee relations climate
