The Health & Wellness Department at the IRC in Dallas ensures that refugees, asylees, SIVs, trafficking survivors and other immigrants with unique, emergency and/or long-term needs have the support necessary to integrate into their new communities and become self-sufficient. Health & Wellness services include but are not limited to case management assistance, emergency food distribution, nutrition education, wellness support groups and workshops, and individual counseling.

Scope of Work:

The Health and Wellness Coordinator oversees a portfolio of administrative projects aimed at supporting and building the capacity of programs within the Dallas office’s Health & Wellness Department, which include food security, mental health and extended case management. This position will primarily work closely with Health and Wellness Program Manager and department staff, rather than clients, to develop tools and resources that contribute to the continuous improvement of Health and Wellness programming as well as the department’s strategic growth.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Propose, design and implement initiatives that improve the experience of staff, clients and community partners with Health & Wellness programming
  • Support the Health & Wellness Program Manager with program design, development and evaluation; maintain project timelines and plans for assigned tasks
  • Gather information about program needs from staff and supervisors, evaluate existing resources and critical gaps, then synthesize findings into comprehensive, actionable goal plans for resolving issues of concern
  • Identify and cultivate strategic community relationships to promote Health & Wellness programs’ visibility, outreach and access to resources alongside Health and Wellness Program Manager
  • Develop tools, presentations, handouts and guides that train staff on departmental policies and processes
  • Represent the department in internal meetings; represent the IRC in external meetings with stakeholders and partners
  • Train and manage department volunteers and interns, as needed, in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards
  • Participate in departmental interviews and onboarding processes for new staff
  • Other duties, as required

Position Reports to: Health & Wellness Program Manager
Position directly supervises: Volunteers and interns
Other Internal Direct Contacts: New Roots Program Coordinator, Extended Case Management Program Supervisor, Mental Health Program Supervisor and RAI colleagues.

Job Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree OR comparable work experience, ideally in the field of health, communication, human services, non-profit administration, project management or other related field.
  • Experience or education in International Studies, strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written; fluency in other language(s) spoken by client populations a plus but not required.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2-5 years of relevant professional work experience in a related field.
  • Lived experience with displacement or the immigration system OR previous experience working with immigrants and refugees.
  • Prior experience and/or strong interest in project management, program administration and design, and trauma-informed practice.

  • Outstanding communication, goal-setting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively across lines of difference with respect to race, gender, ethnicity, language, religion and age.
  • Strong proficiency with navigating computers, Windows, Android, Microsoft 365 Suite and other basic software tools; ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, document preparation, research, and problem-solving purposes.

Working Environment:

  • Standard, professional office environment combined with occasional community-based work.
  • Potentially supplemented by remote work, totaling no more than 35% of all working hours.
