THE ROLE

The Head Strategic Coordination, Vaccine Programmes will lead the design, development, coordination and tracking of cross-cutting tasks, initiatives and approaches for the Vaccine Programmes (VP) team such as work planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, data, operational excellence and process optimization including the EVOLVE project, vaccine portfolio optimization (VPO) and prioritization and other Gavi internal processes including Independent Review Committee (IRC) process, Full Portfolio Planning (FPP) applications and Partner Engagement Framework support (Foundational support (FS), Tailored Country Assistance (TCA) and Strategy Focus Areas (SFA).

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

As one of the other Heads in the VP team, the incumbent will be acting as a thought partner to the Director, Vaccine Programmes and will align with the senior management on the vision and prioritisation for the new approaches, ensuring clarity on roles and responsibilities, follow-up, review and coordination of inputs across team members and with other Gavi teams.

The incumbent will manage their team and guide them in the development of approaches and deliverables by providing thought leadership, strategic guidance and process oversight and coordination. Working closely with the Senior Programme Managers and business leads, they will supervise team members that oversee specific areas of work including data, EVOLVE, VPO/Prioritization and reporting/monitoring.
As examples, the initiatives that the team will support and tackle the following questions:

• How to develop, track and monitor VP team budgets and workplans in coordination with VP team members and other relevant teams?
• How to fully implement the upgrades to the Vaccine Launch Database and ensure the data is validated, regularly updated and analyzed to meet expected reporting requirements and incoming questions? How to establish systems and approaches for data analysis and synthesis by optimizing existing resources and collaborations?
• How to develop and sustainably implement Gavi’s vaccine portfolio optimization and prioritization work in close collaboration with other Gavi teams and partners?
• How to effectively and collaboratively engage with VP members and others to prepare for key engagements and processes internally and externally including Gavi 6.0 process, Alliance Partnership and Performance Team, Full Portfolio Planning, Partnership Engagement Framework (FS, TCA and SFA) and Gavi’s engagement with global partnership meetings?
• How to effectively coordinate and support the work on Evolve to ensure VP team priorities and considerations are incorporated and well reflected and addressed?
• How to optimise the performance management process within the Gavi Secretariat to ensure that Gavi’s VP team is on track to deliver against its strategic priorities and achieves operational excellence?

The Head Strategic Coordination, Vaccine Programmes will pay particular attention to fostering a spirit of close coordination and breaking the silos between VP teams, ensure strong collaboration and shared responsibility within the Gavi Secretariat and Alliance partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC

• Advanced degree in business administration, public health, medicine, public policy, economics, international development or related areas required.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• At least 12 years of professional experience in the field of vaccine programming and global public health preferably of international development institutions required;
• Required knowledge and experience in effectively coordinating complex processes and tasks with multiple team members and partners;
• Preferred significant experience in the field of vaccination programmes especially relevant to lower and middle income countries;
• Experience in working with and engaging senior leaders (C-level) essential.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Structured strategic thinking and excellent inter-personal and people management skills;
• Exceptional people skills including relationship development at senior levels, and ability to influence outside of formal hierarchical structures;
• Strong knowledge of global public health and partnership coordination;
• Excellent analytical and project management skills;
• Ability to influence outside of formal hierarchical structures;
• Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills;
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish working relationships with multiple teams;
• Ability to work independently, under pressure, demonstrating initiative and flexibility.

LANGUAGES

• Fluent English is required;
• French is a plus
