Within the Europe region, Marsh Specialty incorporates Aviation, Construction, Credit Specialties, Cyber, Marine and Cargo, Energy and Power, FINPRO, and PEMA – each of these forming part of a global specialty practice.
What can you expect?
In this role you will be responsible for setting and delivering the Specialty strategy across Europe, reflecting Global Marsh, Global Specialty and Europe regional priorities. There are approximately 1,000 Specialty colleagues across Europe, based in more than 30 countries.

As a key member of the Europe Executive Committee and the Global Specialty Executive Committee, you will report to the President of Marsh Specialty & Global Placement, with a matrixed reporting line to the President of Marsh Europe.
You will have accountability for driving innovation, thought leadership and the development and implementation of Marsh Specialty’s strategic imperatives. We will look to you to cultivate a proactive and collaborative growth culture that encompasses all practices, specialties, countries, and segments within the organisation.
We will count on you to:
Drive Profitable Growth
- Work in collaboration with the country, Segment, and Global Specialty leaders to support their growth objectives.
- Consistently drive all new and expanded opportunities across Specialties.
- Continually enhance operational efficiency to improve the profitability of the business.
- Maximize all yield opportunities across the Specialties.
- Foster a culture of cross sell & collaboration across the Specialties.
- Increase overall client retention and be involved in our key large accounts.
- Support M&A and inorganic growth activities (target identification, analysis, diligence, completion and integration, as needed)
Deliver the Firm
- Look at Specialty from an Industry and product vertical perspective to increase value for clients.
- Develop clear value propositions for each Specialty.
- Leverage the Global Specialty network to deliver unparalleled solutions to clients regardless of geography.
- Work with Placement to develop and drive a carrier engagement strategy across the Specialty practices.
- Build a strong partnership with the Advisory and Claims organisations to ensure the best outcomes for our clients.
- Manage Specialty to operate in a legal and compliant manner.
Develop Talent
- Ensures the acquisition and development of Specialty critical skills and expertise.
- Develop Specialty succession plans and encourage mobility across the region.
- Drive our Grow Our Own strategy and create career progression for key talent.
- Coach and mentor colleagues.
- Lead the Specialties in a manner that promotes inclusion and the development of diverse teams.
- Foster an engaged Specialty ‘community’ across Practices and countries.
Primary areas of focus will include:
- Managing revenue and resource planning, and overseeing delivery of favourable budget results for Specialties, in collaboration with the Segments and countries.
- Making capital allocation decisions to target investment effectively across the Practices and countries and manage necessary trade-offs.
- Providing strategic vision, planning, and operational leadership.
- Directing long-term business strategies and determining the direction and focus of the business.
- Collaboratively conceiving and employing tactics to drive business growth and pursue market opportunity, supporting and advancing our client relationships while striving to achieve the highest levels of client satisfaction and retention, and improving colleague engagement and team spirit.
- Serving as a thought leader and expert as well as complying with all compliance, professional and transparency standards to better serve clients.
- Leveraging the matrix of global, regional and local Specialty colleagues in coordination with the Segments and countries.
What you need to have:
- Highly developed influencing and communication skills to be able to build consensus and gain support from multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
- A successful track record of leading teams.
- Experience leading a large group or department with the ability to coach and motivate others to achieve goals.
- Growth mindset and a client obsession.
- Strong executive presence inside and outside the firm.
- Results-oriented mindset and willingness to hold others accountable for delivering results and high standards of performance.
- A credible voice with senior clients and be well versed in the latest market, products and service innovations and trends for both the Specialty business and the Europe market.
- Visibility with business community leadership, networking groups, and centres of influence.
- Focus on, and accountability for developing inclusive and diverse teams.
- An ability to work across border and boundaries, including a collaborative mindset, especially as it relates to working across segments and geographies.
