The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Port Sudan, Sudan.

As Head of Project you will be managing a project for smallholder agro-pastoralist households in selected areas of Red Sea State to have sustainably improved Food and Nutrition Security. The following 2 outcomes (results) will contribute to its achievement:

1) Improved agricultural productivity, climate resilience and food and nutrition security

2) Improved safe water supply and hygiene practices

A focus on women’s economic and social empowerment will be achieved as a cross-cutting issue and directly with our national NGO partner.

Your responsibilities

  • Manage project team members, budgets and project resources
  • Maintain high quality delivery standards, ensuring professionalism and ethical conduct at all times
  • Ensure the project runs smoothly and activities are completed within budget and on time
  • Produce accurate and high-quality reports for internal and donor audiences
  • Liase with all relevant stakeholders, including government, UN, NGO and community representatives
  • Support the development of new project proposals as needed
  • Manage the finance and logistics teams in the Field Office in Port Sudan (5 direct reports)

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in agriculture, rural development, economics, social sciences or related topic
  • Working experience in the implementation of food security and livelihoods related projects with strong community engagement and construction of infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong teams to achieve excellence
  • Practice in conducting assessments i.e baseline surveys, gender and conflict analysis
  • Proficiency in compiling job specifications and initiating tendering procedures in line with procurement rules and regulations
  • Experience and knowledge of implementing projects funded by the SIDA or similar institutional donors will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships such as with respective line ministries and implementing partners
  • Experience in Integrated Water and Resource Management (IWRM), WASH and Natural Resource Management is an advantage
  • Experience working in remote and fragile contexts and readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing, with fluency in English required; knowledge of Arabic is an additional asset
