The position is to be filled as of February 1, 2023, with an initial contract duration of two years. Employment location will be Bamako, Mali, with potential travel to project locations depending on the local security situation.

As Head of Project Infrastructure at Welthungerhilfe’s Country Office in Mali, you will manage the second phase of a complex KfW funded Program that started in January 2022. The project you will be responsible for contributes to stabilization through economic development by rehabilitating/constructing rural roads and socio-economic infrastructure. Based on the idea of the “peace dividend”, rehabilitating infrastructure and strengthening micro, small and medium-sized enterprises will improve the living conditions of communities.

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out the project(s) according to the rules and standards of the co-financing donors and Welthungerhilfe
  • Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
  • Oversee the overall quality implementation and an appropriate use of funds
  • Security management of project staff and assets in coordination with the Mali Country Office and implementing partners
  • Coordinate training and capacity-building activities of national project partners targeting workforce, infrastructure maintenance committees, local authorities, contractors, and government technical services
  • Ensure high quality of training tools and results through establishment of a system for pre-training needs assessment and post-training evaluation
  • Contribute to continuous project planning and preparation of progress reports and steer committee meetings
  • Establish and maintain excellent relations and communication between the donor and Welthungerhilfe
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing with relevant thematic units at Welthungerhilfe headquarters to benefit from and leverage the organization’s global experience
  • Develop concepts for upscaling the project’s work beyond its duration
  • Oversee the harmonization of partners’ Monitoring & Evaluation plans and activities towards an integrated approach, particularly to meet donor requirements for baseline, mid-term and endline evaluation studies
  • Support the Head of Programs in identifying new funding opportunities, also contributing to project development, needs assessment, evaluations when needed

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in engineering, humanitarian/development studies or an equivalent degree related to the position
  • More than 5 years of professional experience in project management, both in development and humanitarian contexts
  • Previous experience in remote management would be an asset
  • Ability to strengthen team dynamics and to contribute to developing its capacities
  • Excellent planning, organizational and administrative skills
  • KFW donor experiene would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Remote Management Information System (RMIS) and data management tools (such as Power BI, ArcGis, CommCare) would be an asset
  • Excellent communication and intercultural skills as well as coordination skills, including the ability to work under pressure
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and French; German would be an asset
