The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned development policy & advocacy leader, with strong experience in programme, who wants to help people harness their own power to achieve a feminist, just, green transition in the 45 countries where ActionAid works.

You will drive a programme rooted policy and advocacy strategy and ensure strategy is translated into effective delivery to maximise our local, national, regional and global impact. Working closely with our national member organisations and allies, you will build bottom-up alliances, programme and influencing work that strengthen movement power, and amplify local struggles globally.

Together with an international and diverse team of policy and programme experts on Women’s Rights and economic and climate justice, you will anchor and nurture a dynamic community of organisers, activists and development specialists across the ActionAid Federation, engaged in promoting system change and shifting power to women, youth and local organisations and movements. You will also contribute strategically to ensure effective fundraising for our international policy work and a culture of innovation and impact in all our development work.

Who we’re looking for:

With ten or more years’ senior experience in transnational advocacy and programme work in an international setting, you’re able to build a bold vision and strong, trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. You’re a collaborative and courageous leader who exemplifies our feminist leadership and safeguarding approach, including self-awareness, self-care and caring for others, dismantling bias, responsible & transparent use of power, respectful feedback, and zero tolerance for discrimination or abuse.

You’re used to working magic with a limited set of resources through your creative ideas, drive for results and ability to galvanise commitment from both internal and external stakeholders, including fundraising partners. You’re clued up on policy, able to get to grips quickly with complex issues and translate them into mid and long term effective and impactful strategies, based on evidence and winning theories of change. You’re on top of global trends in development debates, well connected with international movements and civil society initiatives with an appetite to drive innovation and take risks.

What we offer:

ActionAid is committed to providing a welcoming, supportive, and engaging workplace where we recognise a job well done; collaborate and share power; and where safeguarding standards and feminist leadership are exemplified everywhere. Offering a fair compensation package and a flexible working environment. At ActionAid, you can look forward to

• A workplace that embraces intersectional feminist principles

• Generous maternity, paternity and adoption pay

• Over 4 weeks paid holiday a year
